SpongeBob pole at 3....

He is 12 now and we fish all the time. We bass fish mostly now but I am lucky to have him and my dad fishing out of the same boat as me, 3 generations together enjoying the outdoors.

He spends most of his Christmas and birthday money on fishing gear and he now has 4 of his own very nice rod and reel combos.

Start them young make it enjoyable and you will have a fishing partner for life

Was in boat at 6 months with my fishing buddy, my wife.
His first fish, a bit before 3. After around 2, trips were kept short.

Snacks, juice, ect along with a toy or two. Keep it as simple as you can.

Mine was 2. Basically he would run around playing (not fishing in a boat), I would hook one and let him reel it in.

My daughter was 3.

Really? Why's that?

I love it, but I'll admit that throwing a line and hoping for a bass is kind of boring. Fishing for other types is fun though.

I just find really boring. I haven't done every type of fishing but have done enough to know that it bores me.

my wife loves it. She also always catches a ton of fish, and for whatever reason I don't catch shite. We went fishing on the amazon river with a guide (part of a tour), and she caught 5 fish and the guide only caught 2. You could see how pissed he was about it. I caught one. but we had to throw it back as it was too small

I used my infant son as fishing bait at about 14 months. I know that's earlier than usual, but he grew faster than most kids.

Hahahaha oh my god that is so fricked up.

2-3, but that was in a johnboat on a family pond in the country and sometimes bank fishing at Myrtle Grove.

One of the old photos posted at my daughter's rehearsal dinner was of her at 2 years old with me helping her hold a stringer of bream. Just go out and make some memories.

all 4 of mine had zebco/spiderman poles around 3...I can now fish with them and not have to worry about them...they do their own baiting and all...youngest is six...he reeled in some decent bass by himself this past summer...my 12 year old caught a huge bass back in august by himself...my 15 year old out fishes me regularly.....11 year old was the first in our family to land a shark...bonnet head near Jekyll Island....teach em young..especially boys...and as was mentioned...it can be something you do for life.

Took my daughter when she was 3. Bought the frozen fishing pole and some pink rubber worms. She ended up playing with the worms and I got to fish. Worked out great.

How long should I really expect it to last? My son is extremely active, so I'm thinking I'll have to bring some other things for him to do while the line is cast.

He won't last long, but that's ok. I know you already know this but make it fun.

I took my 4 year old a few weeks back and he loved it. We have a few park ponds around here that also have other activities like playgrounds. We would fish for 15- 20 minutes, catch a couple bream and then he would go play. We kept rotating like this all afternoon. Having another activity to do in the same area was awesome.

So your wife skunks you, and take the ball and go home and call the sport stupid.

In what other ways does your wife dominate you?

I'm just kidding with you, to each there own.
