NVM - my point was already covered.
I do think it is - currently - safe to be in the water near wild Orcas. They're curious about us. They have worked with humans in the past.
Frankly, it is almost touching that this is relatively typical for human-wild orca interaction:
My best guess is that this mama orca was teaching the calf (or introducing the concept) how to do the - "temporarily beach yourself" stunt that some pods do to pull off ambushes. The swimming parallel to the beach and turn (trying to time the waves to take them back out) looks like that maneuver they do. Then, they see the lady, recognize it is a person, not a seal, and then sniff about. "See honey? This is a 'human'."

Ever see a Sunfish in the wild? They have to be the most vulnerable things in the ocean. Slow, lethargic and no defense systems at all. I think that I could beat the shite out of one.

Our fishing guide on an Alaska trip told us how he was fishing one time and an orca popped its head out of the water and squeaked at him.

They’re extremely smart. One particular human - orca interaction was “old Tom’s pod” for decades they hearded Baleen Whales into a harbor in Australia. The human whalers would harvest the whales in exchange for the tongues and lips being left for the Orcas. Pods have sophisticated languages and, much like human countries, different pods have unique languages. So one pod may not be able to effectively talk to another pod

I like orcas. I saw something about how off the coast of South Africa there was a location you could go and see a bunch of different types of sharks.. Shark watching became a thing.. Then Orcas started going in that area and was just taking the sharks out. I am going to see if I can find it, but there was a video of 2 orcas and they looked like they were just playing with the shark when it was half dead. One sort of tossed it and the other one grabbed it and took off.
I bet orcas are closer to human intelligence than chimps. Maybe dolphins as well.
