The thread on Chocolate Soldier made me curious. Post if you live in Opelousas, used to, or family there. I will start, born here and still live here. I will add that it has changed to put it lightly.

I've been to Mamas fried chicken. Does that count as family?

Used to stop at the Palace Cafe most every time I went through. It was funny, well I guess not, but every politician in the parish was there too.

That said, I've not been that way in probably 8-9 years.

My sister (no pics) married a guy from Opelousas. It was in the mid 80's. I would go visit and it was a lost weekend. Just drinking and eating...

I’m from the Big O.

East Jr High and OHS, so the changes weren’t that stark for me.

Grew up on Old Creswell Road out by the Boagnis.

My father grew up on Wayne St. He attended OHS up to sophomore year then schools no longer could segregate...so my grandparents sent him to the Christian school in a neighboring town.

I visit often to dig up civil war relics. Also many don't know that Opelouses was once the state capital for 9 months in 1862.
