I spent $5k on 4 nights in Vegas, not including gambling money. People talking 2 weeks in Europe for $7K, I’d probably spend 14,000.

Vegas is outrageously expensive to go out and eat and drink. Europe, in most places outside of Paris, London, etc., is a fraction of the cost. And some of the best meals I've ever had were in Spain, Italy, and France in unassuming local restaurants in the smaller towns that were very affordable.

I like the smaller towns (some are basically villages) the best. We rode horses in a lavender field outside of Aix-en-Provence and the farm owner provided a picnic that was local meats and cheeses and table wine. etc. Whole "excursion" if you will was like $300.

It was hot as shite that day, but my kids couldn't have cared less about that. They had a blast. Slept in an Airbnb near a town center that was walkable that had a tiny pool.

Took the train to the coast, which kids thought was awesome, and had a boat day, which they liked even more. We went to cool restaurants and cafes, kids loved the food (mainly Croque Monsieur's like half the time ).

My kids always ask to go back. It's just so peaceful and fun.

ETA:

I don't think my kids would like England.

I've known a few people that have taken advantage of visiting while there because it was everything was basically 40% cheaper. That said, none of them booked the trip to Japan just to do Disney, but was an add on to the trip.

I think I'd agree to that. We can have a Disney Day but I'm not going to Tokyo with the main purpose of going to Disney.

That sounds awesome.

Starting to look at a trip for next year with wife to celebrate my early retirement. I’m pretty fascinated with Bologna Italy and San Marino right now. Don’t want to be hurried and love history.

Boy let me tell ya about the shopping you can do in DIsney World! I'm joking, I obviously get you're talking about higher end retail.

Funny enough, I was in Orlando for a work trip last year and my coworker misremembered Disney Springs as being high end shopping and suggested we go there a couple of hours before our dinner reservation to shop.

We got there, and when they realized it was just massive crowds funneling into places like Lego and Sephora, they apologized profusely. Thankfully we found a bar to duck into.

I feel like Disney is good for 10 and under. I assume Universal is better for older kids and adults (for the big rides) but I’ve never been to Universal.

Call me crazy but $7000 for a trip for a family of four to Disney,

And being flexible on the time you go to shop deals, and where you stay; you can easily cut that price down. We last went in April of 2025 and paid $5,400 for a family of 5. Value resort, 4 park days during a 7-day trip. Day 1 was a free water park day for staying on property. Had 2 chill days at the hotel in the middle to break up the trip, hit up Disney Springs one of those days to let the kids get some gear/toys and did our only character meal. Walmart delivery dropped off about 75% of our foods and drinks for the day. Breakfast in the room, packed lunch, fast service park meals for dinner (only needed 3 meals for 5 people) since the kids were snacking most of the day.

And to top it off, credit card points were used for the rooms, gas, park tickets so cash out of pocket was between than $2,200 - $2,400.

Have you been recently? Yeah, it's expensive, but doesn't seem to stop plenty of trashy looking people from dropping the cash to go

Last time I was there I was walking behind a two dudes and one of them said to the other,

"Why are there so many poor looking people here?"

I laughed, but yeah, the poors still go.

My first trip as a dad to DisneyWorld was when the kids were 5 and 3. I was trying to save up for it since their birth, but still I had a shortfall. Finally I said screw it they are getting older and just did it with the intention to figure it out later. We went on several luxury vacations since then, but none of them topped our first time as a family at DW. It was so special for them.

If we were not blessed soon after that trip, I don't think we could have returned until 5 or more years later.

Its why you see grandparents gifting their kids a Disney time share, or taking them along and treating. DW is loaded with grandparents.

Its outrageous. I guess you can do it if you stay off the grounds in a rental house, but a big part of the experience is living on the grounds in the kids fantasy for the entire trip.

I go every year for cheer/dance nationals. It's usually $800 per person for 4 days. If you can go with a team it's much cheaper.

Sounds awesome!

I've been around Tuscany, but never stopped in Bologna, but I bet it's great. I thought Florence was a bit overrated and touristy, but all these places have cool history. It's all relative too, Florence compared to most places is still awesome And time of year matters.

We stopped in Albinia, Itlay for a couple nights and went around Porto San Stefano/Cala piccolo/ and a few other places.

Only place in Italy I straight up didn't enjoy much was Venice in the Summer. Crowded as shite, hot, and the canals actually stunk like sewage sometimes. I've read they cleaned them up since I went though.

Probably do. They seem to get everything else free once they hit US soil. Why not Disney.

There were a ton of South Americans there over Mardi Gras.

raw sewerage from residential dwellings can dump straight into the canals unless they have fairly recently changed their policy

they did drain them and clean it up a few years ago, I guess they do that periodically, I was there last month and they were as clear as I've seen them and actually looked very nice, I like Venice but it was pretty crowded when we were there because of Mardi Gras
