Online tutoring of kids in China.

Wasn't quite sure where to put this. My teaching assistant introduced me to a Chinese company that recruits college graduates here in the US to tutor Chinese kids online. 25 minute lessons, already prepared on PowerPoint slides. The slides give you tips on how to present each slide. $10 of a 25 minute lesson...so $20 an hour. You are tutoring them in English, but there will be some math, some social studies, etc. But you don't prepare any lessons. I started about the second week of January and made $500. She made over $1,000 for the month. You need a good internet connection and a camera attached to or built into your computer. The kids are really neat...I tutor the higher level...aged 8-13 whose English is already pretty good. The only real negative I think is the 14 hour time difference...you have to be available when the kids aren't sleeping or at school. But you do it when you want to...every week you open the time slots you want to be available, and they book you when they want a lesson. I've been doing it three weeks and already have some repeaters. Anyway, feel free to ask if you have any questions. I though it would especially be a good second income for teachers during the summer. Not bad money for sitting in your pajamas at the kitchen table.

Also, how do they pay you?

So it's not a scam? You've been paid and it's real money?
I get thousands of tutoring emails from thousands of companies, but I never know which are legitimate.

Are you 100% sure this isn't some sex thing?

Do you have a link? I’d like to share with some people.

My wife's teaching partner also does it for extra $. She teaches younger kids. VIP Kids is the company.
It is 100% not a scam. And you definitely get paid. Pretty good side hustle for teachers that have the time.

My wife’s been doing this for a while now. VIP kids. She teaches 8 lessons a day.

My aunt does this too. Have it pinned for when I stop coaching and have the time to do it.

Why can’t the kids just read the PowerPoint?

Do you have to be a teacher to do this?

How hard are the lessons to teach? I’m not sure anybody wants me teaching math to them

Lol. Why would they pay that when certified teachers in the US work for $2.68 an hour (after you add up all the time they spend grading papers, preparing lessons and spending their own money on erasers and chalk)?

I considered this a few years ago right after college when looking for a job. I always thought it was a scam for them to get your bank info.

No but it helps get through the initial steps better though. You just need a bachelors degree. You have to go through interviews and training. Lots of people don’t make it all the way through.
Hours are 7:30pm -9am. So not for everyone.

Sister in law does this. She is not a teacher, just college graduate, stay at home mom. Making about $20/hour.

Applicants pass through five stages before becoming VIPKid teachers:
1. Submission of Resume: Send us your resume, so we can screen for basic requirements and teaching experience.
2. 1-1 Interview or Recorded Interview: Join us for a 30-min session where you showcase your teaching skills to a VIPKid recruiter OR Record your demo lesson at your own time so that a VIPKid recruiter can evaluate you.
3. Introduction to Teaching: Watch videos to learn about the VIPKid technology, standards and curriculum.
4. Mock class: Practice teaching a full-length class with one of our VIPKid teachers.
5. Sign your contract, upload docs & complete background check: The information you provide will help us comply with our online safety and security standards and create a profile that allows VIPKid students and parents to know you and book you.
6. Full-fledged VIPKid teacher: Put your time slots on your portal so that VIPKid students can start booking you. Get ready to teach!

I taught English in Japan so I appreciate this . You are the second person this week who has mentioned this to me so it must be in the Zeitgeist. Pretty cool.
