Do you need a bachelors degree in Education? Or could you have an Engineering degree and teach math classes?

Anything

Other rec for anyone doing this. They will pressure you to sign contract right away, don’t. Complete the training for higher level classes now before you sign. It helps your pay scale. Also prepare for all the interviews and mocks as they determine your pay scale.

Sounds like a good way for them to find out which pRon sites you visit regularly.

My sister does this

I've listened to her teach these kids and there's no way in hell I'd have the patience for it

I know someone that dropped out of high school that teaches English in China. Supposedly some of these places will forge a diploma for you

Why can’t the kids just read the PowerPoint?

Because you're teaching them English, introducing vocabulary, phonics, grammar...making sure their pronunciation is correct...and a big part of that is the conversational aspect of it.

How hard are the lessons to teach? I’m not sure anybody wants me teaching math to them

Areas of rectangles. Line and bar graphs. Word problems. Actually, all of mine have been able to easily do the math. What they are really learning is how to do it all in English.

Besides the camera on your computer, they recommend a headset with microphone. There is also a chat box, and with the mouse both you and the student can draw and write on the powerpoint slide.

Yes. I have worked with a lot of international students tutoring math. Most of them are great with computational tasks, but word problems are their achilles heal. Even the smartest of kids had great difficulty with word problems.

Hours are 7:30pm -9am. So not for everyone.

Depends on your time zone. Here in Central time, "hot" time slots are 4:00-7:30 AM M-F, with the "super hot" slots being 5:00-6:30 AM. On weekends, the hot slots start at 7:00 PM Friday and go pretty much all weekend. Basically...and keeping in mind that they are 14 hours ahead...anytime the kids aren't in school or sleeping.

One of my regular kids was with her family in a restaurant with her iPad and doing the lesson after she had eaten.

You have to go through interviews and training. Lots of people don’t make it all the way through.

I had to do three mock lessons before I got approved. In my first one, I tended to do most of the talking. You want the kid to do the talking. Also, you have to pace yourself and get through all the slides...average about a minute a slide. It took me a couple of mock lessons to get the hang of that.

You do have to actually sign a form giving them permission to do a criminal background check.

$80 a day, $400 a week, not counting weekends.

The wife of one of our coaches was an elem teacher. Shortly after their child was born, she quit her teaching job and started doing this so she could be home with the kid. She's been doing it maybe two years now.

I'm sure I couldn't handle the younger ones who are just learning English. Five and six year olds wouldn't be my bag.

Damn. I might look into this as a side hustle. That's no joke, and I do have some free time.
