For all the watch guys…I have an automatic stainless steel tag huerer aqua racer with a blue face. I like it. In women’s purse equivalent, what is it? Somewhere between Coach/Kate Spade and Louis Vuitton? Obviously it’s not a Gucci or Hermes/Chanel. Maybe a Fendi?

For value the Omega Seamaster Aquaterra is hard to beat.

Casio G-Shock 5000u. You have to import it from Japan but it can be done on Amazon for 300 bucks. The difference between this and the cheaper ones is that it has a more traditional screwtype back:

Also made exclusively in Japan. The cheaper ones are made in malaysia or whatever.
Solar charging. Atomic clock setting every night. The absolutely zero maintenance watch that will last you decades.

I know it’s not the fanciest watch. But I love this Invicta my son gave to me for my birthday this past May.

I've got a Japanese made seiko sport 5 auto that's pretty damn awesome for how cheap it was.

Coming back to this thread without any regard to the OP I figured I will make a list of One Watch options for me from unobtanium to obtainable. This list would vary from day to day depending on when you ask me.
From pure unobtanium to approachable for most:
Albino Pan Am Rolex GMT Master 6542. An extremely rare watch I have never seen in person much less in the wild. The price would be stratospheric at auction with good provinance.
Patek 5711/1A-014 Nautilus A rare version of the now OOP 5711. A Nautilus makes for a great daily wear watch and outside of the co-branded Tiffany the olive dial is the most coveted and IMO cool. Price in the $500k range roughly 13x retail.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400 blue dial. Again an amazing daily wear watch that has a bracelet as comfortable as the Nautilus which is saying something. A Gerald Genta design. He put integrated bracelet stainless steel sports watch on the map and designed the two most iconic versions of them the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. The watches that launched a thousand copies. Orice in the $70k range over twice retail
Now we come to the first watch you can buy at retail
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 5050 Grande Date A dive watch that matches the Subs early days dive watch cred and though it doesn't have the uninterrupted DNA that the Sub does it still has history and can be gotten below retail in the 12-14k range. The sapphire bezel and grande date set it apart from just another Sub copy.
In the more affordable range the Tudor Blackbay burgandy specifically the 79220R with the ETA movement. This is the watch that spearheaded Tudor's return to North America. It became an instant classic and spawned a seemingly limitless strung of variations in the Tudor catalog. The most important Tudor ever made. I prefer the original with the ETA movement to the newer manufacture movement version because it lacks the faux riveted bracelet, it is thinner, it has the rose dial vs the shield dial, and has the smiley face text. It is also more rare (but the blue dial is the rarest). It can be had on the secondary market for what is retailed for about 10 years ago, roughly $3,000 though the prices are inching up
Last but not least is something not necessarily as cheap as it looks. The Casio G Shock but not some regular old Amazon 5600 but an all-original DW-5000C-1A (240) Japan B 1st Generation. A good example with original resin will run from $500-1000. I would replace the resin and store the original. Another watch that became an icon. I still have my original one in a watch detritus box somewhere with no resin. I may one day pull it out and replace the case cover and strap and rock it.
As I said that list would change constantly in my head, in fact, I am already thinking of a wholly different list just in the time it took me to type this.

I haven’t worn a watch in 25 years. What am I missing?

Thanks. You found a Patek I like. Not enough for a price point like that but I at least like it.
My answer. Rolex little brother. Tudor. Tudor appears to be flourishing with Rolex crazy slow production and gray market, wait lists and bidding wars for actual new Subs and GMTs.
I walked into a BEN Bridge I think. Had a nice sampling of Tudors. One had red accents on the dial like the Subs of the early 70’s. The watch almost stayed on. My credit card hand was itching. Wife would have possibly left me.

Watch market is tanking. I’ve got money set aside to swoop in and by something after the next two rate increases put the nail in the coffin for the grey dealers. Will be a lot of good watches coming to market at great prices.

Did you read this post about this guy trying to get his 1675 white dial authenticated? Nice looking watch.
