I used to pull for Canada until I took a job with a company based in Buffalo and traveled up there a couple times a month for a few years.

I love hockey and would go to Sabres games if they were at home. At the time the Sabres were good and the arena would be full. Whenever a Canadian team was in town, a quarter (half if it were the Leafs) m of the arena would cheer for whenever the Canadian team scored from the Canadians that drove across the border to go to the game.

frick the snow Mexicans.

And NC State can say the same thing about UNC.

Most kids that grow up in NC don’t want to go to State, they want to go to UNC. A lot of the ones end up going to ECU, Charlotte, or App State still pull for UNC

That Canes comeback in the throwback uni’s was glorious

Indeed!

We share season tickets with another couple and unfortunately last night wasn’t our game, it would have been insane to have been in the building for that.
It does suck “losing” them when they make hormones. But if you have been a loving dad they will come back to you.

For years every Masters Sunday she’d jump in my lap to watch the green jacket ceremony. When she was 12 or 13 when I told her the ceremony was about to start and she rollled her eyes. Ouch.

Fast forward when she was 20. I asked her if she wanted to go to Houston for the weekend during her summer break to watch the Astros with me. I did plan a few activities she would like as well. She agreed to go and we had a great weekend.

I had no less than three people I met during that trip tell me that their daughter would never do anything like that with them.
As an aside, if any of you visit State’s campus in Raleigh, make sure to check out Reynolds Coliseum. When it was built it was the largest arena in the Southeast. It’s a neat piece of ACC history.
A co-worker took me to one last year. The grilled wings were actually pretty good.
When is a door not a door?

When it’s ajar

Nordiques at Whalers tonight in Raleigh

My Louisiana wife has friends outside of Homa . When we visit them it sounds like they have almost a Brooklyn accent. They are lifelong residence of Homa area. Always found that interesting.

I learned how to speak in Thibodaux and moved away when I was almost 5. Although I have since lost my accent, up until I was around 12 people would ask me if I was from New Jersey.
I’ve met several through the years. A couple that stand out:

Jerome Bettis - we were in the Bahamas on our guys trip. I’m walking through the casino and I recognize the Bus waliking towards me. I didn’t say anything, but he knew I knew who he was and he smiled and stuck out his hand. My buddy is a huge Steelers fan and was excited when Jerome ended up at the table with us. Another buddy on the trip ended up doing some work for him and we all ended up with autographed Steeler helmets.

Another Bahamas trip took place when the NHL had their Olympic break. The Atlantis was crawling with NHL players. I recognized Brian Boyle, who was sort of featured on an HBO special and seemed like a good dude. Went up to him and he couldn’t have been nicer. Met a couple of his teammates and every time we bumped into them that weekend we had a little chat.

That same trip I met a guy about an inch shorter than me and we started shooting the breeze. Real nice guy. Eventually I said, what do you do and he said I play for the Eagles. He and his agent were there and I felt bad for him when we was with the Colts for that bizarre 4th down play.

Sat next to 49ers punt returner Dexter Carter on a flight. We talked non stop. I knew a couple of his ex teammates from college and we traded stories. Seemed like a good guy.

Spot on. Plus they don’t go to three minutes of commercials after every goal.
Nope

Transfer free for all and NIL killed it for me.

My dad used to watch Tora! Tora! Tora! when it was on network TV in the 70s and I used to watch it with him. I seem to remember it as a pretty good movie about Pearl Harbor. Got to visit the Memorial in 1986.

About 15 or so years ago I was staying at a Hampton Inn where several Pearl Harbor vets were staying for a reunion. I was in awe of those men and what they had to endure that day

I worked close to an airport that had 1hr parking near the entrance. They had several video games and pinball machines right inside, and a few times a year I’d go there for my lunch hour and play pinball.

Was the brisket flat tender and juicy? That's the real test

Ehh not really but it was a catered event so I didn’t expect it to be.

Several other people at the event have eaten my brisket and they all told me they liked mine better.

Had my first experience at an event they catered over the weekend. Sides were excellent! Will definitely eat in one sometime
Skip and his dry wit was great, and I think the actual TBS production value was better but I enjoyed watching the 84 Cubs on WGN. You never knew what you’d get with Harry on the mic.

Harry’s Jody, Jody Davis song was epic.

I went to Fulton County Stadium that year and saw Cubs at Braves. Got a pic of Harry waving to the fans.
I’m not going to deal with sitting in a tube for 9 hours, being jet lagged, sleeping on a small bed and overpay for microwaved food in a tourist area. I’m gonna put in the effort to do a little research and find something decent to eat.

I’ll overpay for a mediocre drink in a touristy place with a good view but eat elsewhere.

We went to Athens and Santorini this September (with a few days in Cyprus in between). We used points in Santorini and got the fifth night free, which was plenty of time but we were glad we did. The hotel we were staying in was winding down operations for the season a week or two later. I cannot imagine how crowded that place is during high season.

Also did five days in Athens, which was also enough time. We rented a car one day and drove to Napfilo.

Greece was full of good food, good weather in early to mid September, and I enjoyed it immensely. The service workers were great and made the trip even better.

What Town? I'm outside of Raleigh and I'm honestly not sure which one you are talking about. Didn't notice any changes.

Not to speak for OP but it has to be Holly Springs. I am amazed at the results.

I had drinks with Redd Foxx in Vegas ( late 80’s) I was married to my first wife we were both early 20’s He was doing a comedy show and was hilarious. We were sitting up front and he was all in with sexual jokes with me and her. After the show a security guard come got us and said Mr Foxx would like to meet us The casino had a private bar in the back. He was with an Asian woman I’m not sure if it was his wife or girlfriend. He told that the IRS had taken everything he owned and he had to go back to work. He was really cool

Going to NYI vs Hurricanes tonight, excited to see Calder front runner Matthew Schaefer live.

Canes are beat up with injuries and will have 4 rookies on D tonight again
I remember walking around in a hot mask wearing a polyester costume that did not breathe in the humid south Louisiana weather. I’d be soaked in sweat by the time I got home trick or treating.
I realize this thread is about Reagan but I’ll make a parochial comment about what Clinton did with NAFTA and how if affected the south. It eradicated small town jobs all over the south in the name of free trade. Not only in the manufacturing sector but all the support businesses that catered to these folks making a small but honest living. frick that guy

If you were born 1972 or before you definitely had a beverage out of one of those. Essential gear on family camping trips back then

I could dunk a tennis ball. I could get high enough to dunk a bball, but struggled palming it. I couldn’t get that high with two hands.

Same, at 5” 11-1/2” I could easily dunk a tennis ball and a volleyball, and a football over a goal post but couldn’t palm a basketball. 40 years later and losing that half inch I can barely scrape the bottom of the backboard.
