Not absurdly expensive. Say 12-15k or under at a dealer or on the gray market.

That could get you like 1/8 of a Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Either this is the best troll ever, or we have very different ideas of what makes for an absurdly expensive watch.

I would say a speedy but you said

In that case, my non-Rolex answer is this, and pocket the difference

Alternatively, wait for prices to come down or hit the top end of your budget and get this one:

If never buy an expensive watch but if you have the money it’s not a dumb move to buy one

One watch is too few. If I'm forced, it would probably be a Rolex Datejust, but I would be super unhappy about it. But it's the only watch I can think of that truly fits the "dress tool watch" box, in spite of what Submariner and Panerai owners will say to the contrary.

At minimum, a reasonable question is one dress watch and one casual watch. Ideally, you add a third tool watch, either a diver or a chrono.

Rolex Explorer II (aka Rolex Polar) is the most versatile Rolex IMO.

I have the two outside models rotating on nato straps in summer and jubilee band in winter.

When I finally decide between the Seamaster or Sub I’ll upgrade but for now, these two are great.

Rolex will be the real #1 vote. But I’m not looking to own the same piece that is every guys “dream watch.”
