I get that he was detained. That being said, IIRC he was a diabetic that they denied insulin to. That's pretty fricked up. On the flip side, I would imagine it was a madhouse with all the shite that went down. The cops get a pass, he gets paid...move on.

He was only there for seven hours. That's not even a full work day.
Believe it or not, the jailers not believing guys need medicine is pretty common. I spent the night locked up in Dallas two different times in the 90's. When I told them I was epileptic and shouldn't go the night without my medicine, they either didn't believe me or didn't care. Both times they never did anything after I told them I could call someone to bring it to me.
They deal with lots of sh*theads that lie to them about everything all day long. Believe me, it's best not to ever have to go there. Once you're in the jumpsuit they see you as a criminal. Even if you got taken in for not paying a traffic ticket.
Cops are color blind to you when you're in that situation. The BLM people probably don't understand that, but most of them are rotten kids' mothers or college students. I guarantee you that it's something real thugs know. After they heard me telling one of the jailers I needed the medicine, the guys in there with me were saying stuff to the guards about it too.
You aren't going to go to sleep in one of the holding cells at the courthouse. No mattresses on cinder block and plastic boxes that mattresses once sat on. So you sit at tables in the common area and talk all night. Everyone finds out who's full of sh*t and who's an alright guy that did something stupid. Pretty real in jail overnight.

You sleep, your shoes become pillows. Best to get a concrete bench rather than the floor. After a day in holding you get a rack in a large room and shower access. Also they usually have a nurse check you out and get you pills... or so I heard.
