Where to start. Hearing milk, eggs and cream being delivered to houses in the mornings.

The Times Picayune in the morning and the States Item in the evening.

The Roman Candy man plying his trade throughout neighborhoods all over N.O. in his horse drawn wagon.

Eating seafood every Friday night like a good Catholic family and having my dad pour off some of his beer into a short glass for me to drink and nobody giving a damn----and my dad died when I was only 8.

Working at Pontchartrain Beach Amusement Park when I was 13 making $1.25 an hour.

Leaving the house early in the morning and not coming back home until it was getting dark and your mom didn't panic and send out "Missing Persons" fliers.

Riding my bike on clam shell based Goodchildren when it was being laid in St. Bernard Parish before it became Judge Perez.

Eating at Angelo's on St. Bernard Hwy. when Rocky & Carlo were working for him.

Listening to Irma Thomas when she was a teenager singing at CYO dances at St. Henry's from my aunt's back yard.

Exploring "The Caves" under the Chalmette Slip using cat tails soaked overnight in kerosene as torches.

Being able to ride atop the levee all the way from the Lower 9th Ward to as far as you wished into St. Bernard and never run into a fence across the levee. You just had to get down at the Sugar Refinery in Arabi and ride that road around the Chalmette Slips to continue as far as your legs could take it.

Going to the Arabi Show on St. Claude on Friday nights and getting in for $.25 to watch movies and the cartoons, or piling in a car and going to the St. Bernard Drive-In and lighting Piks to ward off the mosquitoes.
