Remember Shakeys well as a kid. Mom and dad would take me and my bothers to eat there and we'd watch the pizza makers make the pizza behind the window. Good memories.

That building is now Shogun.

We'd start our night here before heading out to the real destination.

I can kinda still see it circa late 60's early 70s.
Walk in. Nod to "Sarge" the bartender. Long bar on left paralleled on the right wall by a long shuffleboard table. We played the shite out of that while drinking an arse-load of beer before picking up our girlfriends or dates. We'd come back again later to review, discuss, and, especially in my friends' cases, to embellish and exaggerate the evening's activities getting lit all over again prior to calling it a night.

A pinball machine at the far end of the shuffleboard table butted up against the wall separating the bar from the bathroom/storage area. You played it while waiting to get back into shuffleboard if you'd gotten knocked off by a challenger. Or just sat back drinking beer if the pinball was occupied.

Past the bathroom/storage was a curtained door behind which the poker game was forever ongoing. Off limits to the average Joe. Only "Sarge" the bartender was allowed in to take orders and bring snacks and booze.

Great times. Great friends. I find myself unusually nostalgic while reminiscing about them.

The Beatles LINK ]In My Life seems perfectly apt.

There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places had their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

That Fun Arcade used to be Burger Chef on Veterans, right near Pelican Lanes.
