Nah

You can't fault the guy for using a strategy he felt gave his team the best chance to win, if it's within the rules

I mean, he lost by one shot

He obviously knew he was overmatched

Let the refs blow the whistle for stalling like this. 4-2 should never happen.
by way of what rule?

Yeah. Watching HS basketball is the worst. I've been to several state championships. Its hard for a team to come back. If a team goes up by 10 points early, its just pass, pass, pass, pass, pass until someone gets a favorable matchup or isn't guarded.

The losing team then has to try to score as fast as possible because of all the time the winning team will eat up.

How is that different than running out time in football at end of game? It’s called strategy. Hold the ball the last 4-5 minutes of a football game with first downs.

If I were a HS basketball coach. We would run a defense then I would just let them play street ball on offense. The other team would wear out pretty quick because most teams are playing slow games because of no shot clock.

I could understand if his team was terrible and going to get beat by 60 points or whatever then you're trying to save your team from embarrassment. But his team is ranked 9th in the state so we can only assume they are pretty decent themselves. So go out and play the game the right way and see how you stack up. If you get beat so be it. I can't imagine their players actually enjoyed playing the game this way.

Is there no 5 second rule either? This is dumb. High school doesn’t need a shot clock.

we're in a private school league in Texas, 10 seconds to advance from back court and you have to be advancing the ball after 5 seconds. my son's team was up by 20 and stood in place and dribbled and they called us for it. he was guarded but not well, other team had accepted their defeat. didn't matter but our PG was just dribbling on his unguarded hand.

I hated when teams did this. Turned into a big game of Lee away.

This strategy relies on both teams being ok with this style … no way would I allow a team to control the clock like this by sitting back in a zone

That's what I'm saying. They should have an anti stalling rule if they're not going to have a shot clock.

they do, the ball has to keep moving, one player can only possess it for a few seconds at a time

Yeah but it’s about the spirit of the game. I wouldn’t want that coach coaching my child

Either the losing team is so dumb that they didn't guard closely enough to cause a 5 second violation, or they did and they weren't good enough to cause an errant pass or shot. Either way, get good.

Why? It’s called strategy. Purpose of game is to win. No different than a run and gun team. You do what you have to do to win. What if other team beat them 90-36 the first time?

This is some dumb shite like Oweo would post.

There is a similar thread in the MSB wherein I took a similar position and have been getting blasted from multiple directions. But, alas, you are absolutely correct.

It seems to me as if most of the justification for a shot clock is largely based upon making things more appealing to spectators. This may be acceptable in the NBA... which is to basketball what WWE is to wrestling. But (IMHO) this is not a good reason for monkeying with HS rules and taking away/limiting an important strategy piece, that takes skill to execute in the face of pressure defense.

It’s a strategy idiot. The rules allow it. Plenty of old teams did it. You modern idiots think you know everything.

Won't ever happen in Alabama... We are already low on referees. A shot clock will only worsen it
