Ohio dad lures alleged child rapist via TikTok then shoots him

Grove City, Ohio - Malik Chandler, 31, posed as his 11-year-old daughter on TikTok to lure Diego Montoya Gonzalez, 20, back to their home and shot him after learning the man had s*xually assaulted the girl.

The girl’s mother discovered a video on their daughter’s phone showing Montoya Gonzalez assaulting the 11-year-old at the family’s Grove City home. The next day, Chandler messaged the suspect while pretending to be the daughter on TikTok and got him to return to the apartment on Parlin Drive.

Chandler told police he planned only to beat Montoya Gonzalez up, hold him there, and call authorities. When the man arrived and reached into his pocket, Chandler believed he was going for a gun (he had previously seen Montoya Gonzalez flash a firearm in a TikTok video). Chandler grabbed his own gun from the counter and opened fire, striking him with two gunshot wounds (reports note three shots fired). Montoya Gonzalez ran but was found by police sitting in a chair with the wounds; he was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus and survived.

Chandler surrendered to officers, was charged with felonious assault, and had his bond set at $100,000.

Montoya Gonzalez was later indicted on five counts of pandering s*xually oriented material, two counts of r*pe, and one count of obstruction of official business.

Prosecutors said several videos on his phone showed s*xual abuse of children, including one of an infant or toddler.

At his arraignment he received a $20,000 recognizance bond plus a $50,000 cash bond, with orders of no contact with the victim or her family and a ban on internet use except for work purposes.
