Boy, it's a good thing Congress spent all that money to improve its "climate resilience".

Imagine seeing this disaster about to occur and trying to use it to score political points. Did that bipartisan law passed in 2023 somehow change the damn dam that was built in 1925s design and make it less structurally sound?

Lake Lure is a favorite vacation spot for us- they are in trouble along with all of Western NC mountains. I40 has washed away heading into TN. All time flooding is happening.

Same for us. I usually go to Chimney Rock once a year, either while driving to West Virginia or driving back to Florida from West Virginia.

We love sitting at the Chimney Rock Brewing Company right along the Broad River having some nice craft beers. If you've never been the setting just can't be beat. Usually stay the Chimney Rock Inn and Cottages right along 74. Stayed at the 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa once as well which is nice, but I like the more rustic feel of where we stay and Chimney Rock in general. We do like the Italian place in Lake Lure that has great views of the surrounding mountains. But yes beautiful area that is really in trouble right now.

Supposedly everyone downstream from Lake Lure is evacuating to the Ingles just south of Lake Lure if you know where that is. Hope everyone there stays safe.

No, it didn't, because they didn't use the money on anything worth doing.

A bit of unrelated trivia. Lake Lure, NC is where Dirty Dancing was filmed.

Yep the Lake Lure Inn and Spa there has hosted Presidents and has room names after the actors and actresses in the film (yes there is a Patrick Swayze room and a Jennifer Grey room). I believe one of the cottages is where they filmed the training montage scene. They split filming between North Carolina and Virginia. Of course I like it too because it's well known to be haunted. Great views though from the hotel.

I believe parts of Last of the Mohicans was filmed in Lake Lure, NC and Chimney Rock, NC as well.

Just came back from Asheville last week. I saw they are forecast to get 15 to 20 inches of rain. The flooding will be epic.

Your family needs a new roof. You had the money, but you gambled half of it away and then spent the rest on drugs and alcohol. Shouldn't your family blame you when the roof can't be fixed?

When things break is when you bring up points about misallocation of congressional appropriations. We'd be much better off if the MIC turned into heavy civil construction companies.

I’m concerned this might happen at Lake Conroe in Texas one day.

Parts of Last of the Mohicans were filmed near Bryson City, as were parts of the Fugitive.

Crazy footage.
Most people on the coast probably evacuated, but Asheville is far enough inland I’ll bet a lot of people didn’t take enough precautions
