Not true. Just needs to be calibrated. Only difference most of the time is the etching in the glass.

The problem is that some aftermarket companies use really cheap glass and it can be wavy. Wavy glass really fricks up electronics that depend on your windshield like heads up displays, cameras, some adaptive cruise, etc. Some is so bad that it’s noticeable when you look through it. Places like Safelite don’t give a shite and will put that glass on your vehicle instead of rejecting it.

This.

For your windshield replacement, there is three types of windshield that can be used: OE/OEM, OEE and After-Market.

OE/OEM – Original equipment manufacturer. ...

OEE – Original equipment equivalent. ...

Aftermarket glass.

In BTR, I only use Advanced Windshield

I used them and even though they said it was OEM, the tinting was not as dark, the HUD was a little distorted, and. I noticed more wind noise afterwards. Regret not bringing it back for rework.

Thank goodness you're there at the ready to do the windshield wiper cover trim pieces properly.

I’ve used them more than just about anyone, never had a problem. You do know they do many of the dealerships, right?

If you wear polarized sunglasses, you will likely be able to see differences in the lower grade replacement glass. It's been a while, but I remember seeing rainbow patterns when I went with the cheap option on one of my wife's cars years back.

I just called a glass shop. I figure I’ll take apart the trim (remove the wipers) at the base of the windshield before I drive it over.

Man they are going to do all of that.

Well, I saved a few bucks bought new windshield at local shop couple months ago. I already have 2 chips, one with two inch crack. And, I work from home, don't drive much. Must've sold me a piece of shite glass. I tried to research after the fact, brand is Pilkington which is a respected brand apparently. But, like anything else, there are different grades of product. Guess I got the ghetto version, really disappointed.

What’s the difference between a dealership windshield and a glass shop one? Will it not have shading around the tire view mirror like the OEM? Chip and crack easier?

It's going to be the same thing - I just had to replace my wife's vehicle a couple of months ago and there isn't a single difference that I've noticed because no more crack through it.

If you're driving on Louisiana interstates you're going to get cracks.

I stay away from big trucks, those with flimsy trailers, etc. It doesn't matter. Interstate debris will find you. Half the gravel and rock trucks aren't covered well.

I got smacked on a month old truck two days ago. Whatever. I'll get it filled and keep on.

I have a 3 yr old vehicle I’m on my fourth windshield and it’s cracked all to hell. Once I’m done forever with I12 I assume I’ll get more time between replacements

How is that relevant in my case? I’ve also had windshields replaced by other companies. This particular instance was a disappointment.

Did you notify Advanced about your problem?

Dealerships are not going to use an outside company that gives them reoccurring problems.
