Interesting...capturing carbon not to be used in EOR, but to sell carbon credits.
I think there’s some mechanism to get some carbon credits with EOR operations; however, my very elementary understanding is that EOR can’t be taking place in order to gain the higher California (CARB) credits.
Someone here with more knowledge please correct me if that is wrong.

Why don’t they just build a space traveling maid with a vacuum

Are carbon emissions really strong here? I would think this would be best done (if you are going to do it) near high concentration cities.

But hey... At least we won't have all be dead in 8 years from polar bears floating on ice!

Is this the same Occidental responsible for the Bayou Corn sinkhole mess?
And Love Canal, too.
A coworker had an idea a couple of years ago to buy up a lot of forest land and then lease plots to companies so they could claim some sort of carbon dioxide remediation credits.

Very curious to see if this air capture stuff can work efficiently and if projects like this will also find it way to Louisiana.

What happens when these giant fans start to get clogged by leaves and birds?

So let’s take a naturally occurring gas, that is poisonous when concentrated and heavier than air and pump fast quantities of it into the ground in an area that’s flat and barely above sea level.
What could possibly go wrong?

Especially when the “welfare” is helping industry pay for stupid arse government regulations/climate change initiatives
That’s part of the equation too.
How many of these projects are being done so that oil & gas operators can show how they are “offsetting” their emissions in exchange for being able to continue getting their federal drill permits in Wyoming, Permian New Mexico, GOM, etc approved?

EPA: Sir, we are going to have to shut down your billion dollar fans because they killed a male spotted owl.
Oxy: Are spotted owls still endangered?
EPA: No, but this one was born a female.

they would either pay taxes to the government to send to Ukraine or invest them in this thats at least getting out to people and making some jobs. It's not ideal, but it's the least worst current option.
