Millions of Americans could probably lose 50 lbs or more simply cutting out soft drinks and reserving drinking alcohol for the weekends.
It’s very hard to be cut and lean and muscular and have visible abs.
It is relatively easy not to be obese, and it’s past time for it to be said.
We have been too easy on people.
It was considered misinformation that eating habits were the main driver of obesity until oopsy a drug that killed hunger was popularized, and people started losing half their body weight
There is no doubt that we are psychologically weaker and more fragile than prior generations, and it certainly plays a role in our obesity epidemic, along with the proliferation of unhealthy foods.
It starts in childhood. The best way to not be fat is to never be fat.
We really need to be attacking childhood obesity ferociously, and that will impact adult obesity down the line.

Should be considered parental abuse.
And yes, I realize back in the day, there was always a bigger kid like Ham from The Sandlot, but 40% of children shouldn't be looking like Ham from The Sandlot.

I see friends post their kids softball pics and most of the kids on the teams seem to be overweight. Of course the moms of those kids in the pics are too so it's obvious the whole house eats like shite.

I remember watching the first season of Last Chance U, and obese coach Buddy Stephens served his family steak and doritos for dinner one night. I mean, wtf

Maybe these Ozempic patients will lose enough weight that they eventually create a healthier household with better eating habits to filter down to their children.

100% agree with this
However, there are years of research, billions of dollars, and tons of evidence that many in the food industry create foods designed to be addictive and nonsatiating. And on top of that- those are the cheapest and quickest drinks and foods available.
My point being yes- eat healthy and see improvement, however for many they are on a somewhat uphill battle.
Not to mention, there has to be a fundamental change in the thought of “dieting” vs your actual diet.

777,
Ive got to say I made two changes in my 30s that have helped it stay easy to be thin.
I upped my protein intake about 40%. Basic strength training 4x a week (basic compound motions: bench, squat, deadlift, ect).
First piece of advice Id give anyone who wants to start a healthier journey
for most people if they do the above and then get 8k steps a day...everything else will take care of it self. could easily cut the lifting to 3 days a week ~60-75 min each and then hit the steps and they will see drastic changes if protein is at 40%
thats awesome you made the changes

You can look at old school yearbooks. Everybody is skinny except for the one fat kid, and he's just a little bit husky by today's standards.

This board used to be universally anti-fat, it is crazy to see the shifting sentiments in many posters.

I lost 50 pounds since November by cutting out sodas and bourbon and getting a second job that’s almost all manual labor for 4-6 hours a day
I miss that bourbon though

You think fat asses are eating Whole Foods?

I'm making an observation I've almost universally found to be true. I'm trying to get into longer distance running, not exactly a fat man's game
Really fit people almost universally don't care if people are fat in my experience. And I'm probably more skinny fat that I am fit so I'm not even trying to lump myself in with the "fit" group. It doesn't mean they think its ok, but they also aren't online posting about how fat everyone is now either because they have other things going for them

I graduated high school in 1971 and there were 168 in our class. Only one was way overweight and he had a heart condition that kept him out of PE and sports. In fact he died a year or so after graduation.
The rest of us were pretty trim. Most of the guys played at least one or more sports. We did stuff in PE and that included the girls.

Obesity is a choice
While we're talking about choices, why don't we talk about the choice to have very lax regulations for the food industry?

I'd say most obesity can be linked to depression. Depression is not a choice.
