Doesn't MTD make Husqvarna mowers as well as most of the other popular brands?

I've never understood how a company as old and experienced as B&S can't make a small gasoline engine to compete with Honda on both price and performance.

I had a Generac with a 10 HP B&S that I couldn't keep near the house because it was so damn loud and a Toro pressure washer that was unbearable and always ran like shite.

Sold both and paid double for Honda stuff and couldn't be happier.

The big block fuel injected Briggs motors are the best high output mower engine going. I hope they keep it around

I'm actually looking at buying a stump grinder right now. One of the ones I'm looking at has the 37HP Vanguard EFI motor on it. This news confuses me.

How in the blue hell can B&S declare bankruptcy. shite, they kill it in the small engine market.

I've got the Toro lawnmower with the honda engine.

I'm not handy, but even I can keep it running every year for the past decade.

NSIAP: Briggs & Stratton filing for bankruptcy by BeepNode
I hope Snapper is going to take their 82v electric battery system/line. I assume that was just a marketing gimmick and that briggs had nothing to do with it other than branding

Isn't Snapper a subsidiary of B&S?

Too bad for them. Many of us grew up with them, Kohler, Tecumseh, Wisconsin.
One problem B&S had was failures of components that weren't occurring with their competitors and their high replacement parts costs.
Things such as fuel tanks, gas caps, head gaskets (too thin between cyl and valve chamber, poor service manual documentation, etc. were problems with their single cyl. engines in the past 15 yrs.

Are they taking Kohler down with them?

Apparently not. JCPenney gave their executives big payouts, then filed for bankruptcy.

Those payouts are fairly normal. They want key managers to stay on throughout the transition period.

Big box versions, yes. MTD or Yard Machines makes those sold at the box stores. They are different than the ones sold by dealers for the most part.

Briggs & Stratton filing for bankruptcy
This is proof that prayers are answered.*

I (and many other folks) have spent countless hours of life being tortured by B&S engines.

Twenty-plus years ago, I had enough disposable income to get away from them other than a single experience where an almost new 28” Snapper mower with a B&S engine fell into my lap (figuratively).

I should have immediately given it away, the engine (and its replacement engine) were shite.

Honda, Shindawa, Husky are all I have now.

*Sorry for the “little” folks who might get hurt from this action.

That’s the same engine in my mower, it’s a beast and has never missed a beat. The reviews online are consistently better than the other brands big block engines and I’m partial to Kawasaki. Maybe you can get a discount now.

Same engine on my mud motor (duck boat). Runs great in a pretty tough environment and hasn't let me down yet.
