I got married there, after also proposing on the front porch. It was also my wife's grandparents favorite place. We have taken our kids multiple times. We usually go once every couple years. This is heartbreaking to my family. That was a very special place.

Did the fire department not enter the building to try and put the fire out? Every picture has just one truck spraying from the street while everyone is looking. Regardless seems like the FD dropped the ball. Old wooden building are notorious for reigniting.

I bet almost every firemen out there was a volunteer. It’s not like White Castle had some huge city fire dept

It wasn't built with electricity, climate controls, or a fire suppression system. Guess which ones were prioritized? Not trying to be clever. This is a horrible loss for historians and Louisiana. The only way to mitigate a fire in one of these old structures is to contain and extinguish it early.
