A lot of problems here...One of the them is that there are no other East/West cooridors. It's either go through Covington through downtown, use 22 through Mandeville, or use the interstate. Too many locals are using this to get around. That is the congestion.

One solution would be to extend service roads on the north side of the Interstate from 59 all the way through to 1077. But that won't happen.

Reality is all we're going to get is an LED sign saying slow down.

They either need to close the on ramp, or be prepared to widen the bridge. The on ramp is the sole cause of the traffic. It has been since it opened. I don't know why traffic engineers suddenly thought people knew how to merge, but they definitely don't. Add a bridge in there, and you have people slamming on the brakes all day long

It needs to be four lanes each way not 3. Its already busting at the seams for 3 lanes each way when they do build it so do it right now.

Probably a few bulldozers, some excavators, a diamond bladed water saw, some jackhammers, a few concrete trucks, some concrete and rebar, one of those road building machines, three dudes to do the work, and ten dudes to lean on shovels watching.

Either 4 or 3 both sides with actual service roads.

With all the dam taxes we pay in this parish there is no reason that it should not have been done already! Like everything else....SLOW!

Plan on bringing it past 1088 interchange, with the new high school on 1088 there will be new housing soon if not already planned. Also put up 20' sound barrier walls on the bridge over the Tchefuncte river. People slow down to see what is going on in the river.

A new freaking bridge over the bogue falaya in Covington so 190 can flow and another way to get across the river without using the interstate. Maybe connect pinnacle parkway and 3 rivers road right by the interstate. Would eliminate the 25 mph interstate drivers.

Or we make 12 a toll road for 18 wheelers.

If you saw the accident the other day at Hwy 21 you know what I'm talking about....If you have been on the interstate at any time in the morning or afternoon in that area, you know what I am talking about.....how many more bad accidents will it take to convince the politicians?

Yall motherfrickers need to make 22 a 5 lane highway from 1085 to 190. End of story.

Got Damn clusterfrick out there every day.

Yeah, I clearly forgot about the light signs, the cones, and the barrels.

OH! You also need one of those "Road construction next 25 miles" signs that you put up 20 miles ahead of where you're actually going to be working. The 2 will be printed on the sign, but the "5" is going to be a sticker covering up whatever number is actually printed on the sign.

I remember about 18-20 years ago Mike Foster really wanted to widen I-12 to 3 lanes each way but the "experts" said that at the time it was not justified and Foster warned them that the I-12 corridor was only going to grow more and more and then they created the cluster frick at Pinnacle. The problem here is that that area is getting ready to explode with new development particularly on the Lake side of the interstate

Prediction: the biggest opponents of expansion will be the local folks in St. Tammany when push comes to shove

It's actually under design right now and should be wrapping soon. Check the DOTD website, they awarded the design contracts over a year ago. They broke it into two sections LA21 to 190 and 190 to LA59.

Construction likely to start at the end of 2018 or early 2019 and will take 18 months. I'm sure with the governor behind it, funding for construction will be available.

they widened it a few years back from 59 to 190 and added a third lane on part of 22 to the Tchefuncte......not enough, of course, but the Nimbys towards Madisonville bitched too much

If true, cool, but the reality is that after Katrina they should have done it to help facilitate evacuations....should be the length of I-12.....hell, it goes through Tangipahoa, you would think JBE could convince some of his friends there to push through Hammond.....he's from that area

How long until drivers put their phones down? According to the Advocate and State Police the truck didnt even slow down before running into the back of traffic. People need to take some responsibility, pay attention, and quit looking to blame.
