There are no drug charges listed as any of the charges. So, no.

were the parents passed out drunk when it happened or something like that?

Probably. They didn't just charge the parents to rub it in. Well I don't think.

two felonies seem absurdly harsh based on the story. Maybe they were getting high at the time or something,

Yeah, my parents would have been locked up. At 7 I was free to roam the neighborhood from daylight to dark.

Did your parents smoke so much weed that you always had a serious buzz?

sounds likely, especially with that bond

That has to be it. It says involuntary, so it's not like they pushed the child into traffic. But being under the influence when it happened and if the child was unsupervised because they were under the influence could definitely warrant those types of charges.

At 7 I had my own paper route, supervised myself all summer long, and regularly rode my bike to the store by myself to buy cigarettes for my mother. That's just how it was in the 70s.

Parenting has really changed and you can see it in the competency crisis.

There has to be more to this.

From first glance, this sounds like a tragic accident.

My heart breaks for the parents.

I've been wondering when to start letting my 8 year old daughter do this. We have no sidewalks and she'd always have to be in the street, but seems like it should be soon where we let her have more independence.

I grew up in a neighborhood with sidewalks and we were always outside and all over the neighborhood but can't really remember if I was more 9-10 when having that free rein or 7-8.

gotta be more to the story. Can't imagine charging the parents for a tragic accident like this...

Another article says the accident happened near 1000 West Hudson Blvd in Gastonia, NC. That road appears to be a busy 4 lane road, not a residential street. So that's probably why they're getting charged.

This was on a 4 lane highway, not a neighborhood street.

Whatever you do, don’t read the link

In a Facebook post the Gastonia P.D. said, “While the Gastonia Police Department offers its deepest sympathies to the family for the heartbreaking loss of their child, the investigation revealed that the children involved were unsupervised at the time the boy stepped into traffic. In such cases, adults must be held accountable for their responsibilities to ensure a safe environment for their children.”

We’ve lost the fricking plot. Cops and DA are absolute POS for charging them; savage animals if they didn’t allow them to go to the funeral.

They are very good about being “defensive bikers”. My biggest concern are the Amazon drivers who fly thru the neighborhood.

At this time, there is no evidence of speeding or wrongdoing on the part of the driver, therefore no charges have been filed. The driver continues to be cooperative and the incident remains under active investigation by the Gastonia Police Department’s Traffic Division.

This is my first thought as well. We were all over the neighborhood riding bikes, go carts, big wheels, you name it. Built forts in the woods, camps, camp fires and later riding 3 wheelers all over with no helmet(not that I would let my kids do that now), but c'mon. Crap happens.

If it were my only child I don't imagine I'd care too much. I'd already be dead on the inside.

There doesn't technically have to be drug charges if they were intoxicated or high while this happened to their child.

Yea, but it's still just an assumption that they were even involved.
