re: Non alumni following college sports?

-I grew up in Wisconsin
-I’m proud to be from Wisconsin
-I’ve cheered for the Badgers since I was a little kid
-I like to see in state kids go there and represent the state
-I graduated from a school in Wisconsin that didn’t have football
-I like college sports better than pro sports
-As I live out of state, the teams are a connection to my roots.

I’ll be a die hard Badger till I die. I’ve traveled coast to coast to see them play and will continue to do so.

Oh, I agree with you, but according to the op, you wouldn't be allowed to have any rooting interest, and to me, it would be pretty weird to watch a bunch of 18 year olds play a game and not have any interest in the outcome.

There are so many variables that go into college choices, that to say you should only be allowed to root for the school you went to is retarded. What if the team you loved your whole life doesn't offer a major your interested in? What if it costs too much? What if you get a scholarship somewhere else?

Again, I think it's weirder that athletics are associated with universities at all. When at the majority of schools, the athletic department is affiliated with the academic side in name only

Edited to add, I might be in the minority, but I don't watch sports for entertainment only. I only watch if I have a rooting interest. I watch most sec games because the outcome of those games affect LSU, but I don't watch cusa games just to have football on.

It's different when one graduates from the school. I'd argue the alumni are less obsessive about sports than the sidewalkers. Maybe it's because there is a sense of balance. An alumni can reference experiences w/ the school outside of sports.

Agree, of course like anything there are exceptions, I know a lot of hardcore alumni too. I actually came away with a lot more negative views of the athletic department from my time on campus. I wish I would of been a better high school student, so I could of went to a better school that focused a lot less on athletics now.

for most, it's the state school(Missouri), and they love football, so why wouldn't they follow?

If only alumni followed CFB, there wouldn't be a SEC network, or CFB on 6-8 channels on Saturdays.

I went to USL but was and have been an LSU fan all my life. I never went to USL games because I stayed in to listen to the LSU game on the radio.
