I’ve followed LSU sports ever since meeting Skip Bertman as a kid. One of those things that stuck with me.

With that logic, I can't watch college sports because I did not go to college. Doesn't make sense to me

I spent many summer breaks on LSU campus as a kid, relative of mind worked for an anthropology professor. Is okay for me to be a fan?

Why do you care so much about what I am doing? IDGAF about your life.

It's kinda like the whole anthem thing. You want to stand.... great! You don't.....great!

It's not going to stop me from doing what I do.

You certainly could have made that argument years ago, but nowadays college sports are marketed every bit as much as the pro's.

I may not have went to LSU, but I'd much rather go watch a baseball or football game a few minutes from the house than drive to New Orleans. Also college sporting events have a better atmosphere and history.
Also you have to look at the fact there honestly isn't that many professional sports teams in the southeast region in general. The ones that are here just don't have the history like some other teams in different areas of the country like the Bears, Packers, Redsocks etc.

Anyways what is there better to do around Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, Starkville on a Saturday. lol

This discussion again? As an LSU alum, I've never had any problems with this. I have a much bigger problem with other alums somehow claiming exclusivity.

What a dumbass logic you have.

Like the poster below you said, my father didn't attend LSU, but loves some LSU sports. He was born and raised in BR, went to another college on basketball scholarship though.

I went to LSU and my dad went to Michigan.

I cheer for Michigan and he cheers for LSU. I will say I am not as "passionate" for Michigan as I am for LSU but I most of my family never went to LSU and are huge fans.

this thread again? So, it's only ok to be a fan of a school team if you attended that school?

I will be honest. I don't understand the urge to root so passionately for a school you never even went to & I never will. No message boards responses will have me thinking anything otherwise. I think it is more people in certain areas giving in to peer pressure from everyone around them than anything.

Most people started watching their favorite college team as a little kid. I did. Doesn't make you less of a fan at all if you didn't attend the school. People grew up with their team

Most, if not all in-alumni college sports fans grew up as fans of that school due to family, geography, or early exposure. They just weren't able to go to their favorite school.

Unless you're from Lafayette that is. Then you're a ULL fan and a Bama fan apparently because this town has almost as many Bama stickers on cars as you'll find in Birmingham.

So, in your eyes, only alumni can be fans.

Maybe you rode one of those half size buses to school, eh?

up north
There's your problem. Northern CFB (read: northEASTERN CFB) hasn'the really been that relevant since the glory days of Harvard and Yale around the turn of the 20th century.

After that, CFB went national in a big way and north/northeast faded from the scene pretty quickly, with few exceptions.

Sure, there was an adoption of ND as a 'northern' team but that was always a false equivalency.

Bottom line is that ever since the north/northeast lost the competitive edge in CFB against the rest of the country, those fans gravitated toward professional sports.

Too bad really, IMO...

didn't go to UGA because I made decisions as a young man that prevented my being able to do so...I joined the Navy instead...and wound up getting my degree where it was most convenient for me to do so...but I am from Georgia...born and raised...and have been pulling for the Dawgs since I was little...its a huge part of my life....and my fervent prayer is that at least one of my boys will fulfill my dream and attend UGA...

honestly...if only alumni followed college athletics...I don't think it would be as large of a product...and I think the quality would suck....

and frick the NFL. bunch of babies protesting and acting like retards...no thanks...I like the passion of the college game.
