What Nola and Bangkok and many other cities have that separate them from places like NYC and London is great locally grown, harvested, and cooked food. Great food unique to their area.
Also both cities have something that is simply impossible to manufacture or replicate- a passion and obsession with food and good meals.. in both places , people will sit and debate what they will have for dinner, while in the middle of eating lunch.. the main differences between NOLA and Bangkok is that in BKK great meals can be had at a fraction of American prices, and crime is virtually non-existent in Bangkok…. And instead of a bunch of fatties like in NOLA, Bangkok has hundreds of thousands of beautiful women .. Both places have many ladyboys lol .

Is this among dead or alive tourist interviews who cares if the food is good if you’ll end up attacked or dead.

Its just so scary and dangerous, a lot of OT posters would be too scared to eat.
Mostly, it’s that the OT doesn’t believe we need to import the third world horde into our country just so we can pretend to be excited about some new street food that’s probably rat meat

Did you even read my post ? Is English not your first language ?
Bangkok is probably the safest big city in the entire world.. not sure if it’s the Buddhism or what, but i spent many years living in Bangkok when i was younger, and ive had women there , very attractive women, tell me they’ll go out to bars in the middle of Bangkok and walk home alone at 3am without feeling the least bit unsafe.. sure there is some crime, but it makes headlines b/c it is very rare, especially violent crime .

I'll add a few observations about why Cape Town is on this list:
Located at the confluence of the cold water Atlantic Ocean (Benguela Current) and the warm water Indian Ocean (Agullas Current). The selection of fish is unrivaled.
There are over 350 wine farms and vineyards within a three hour drive of downtown and most of them have their own restaurants.
There are many commercial vegetable farms within the metropolitan area and huge fruit orchards in the mountains within a two hour drive. Most of these farms ship overseas due to the opposite seasons of the Southern Hemisphere and thus maintain European quality standards.
Any top chef in the world will start a restaurant by establishing vendors that can provide best quality fresh food and supplies to their kitchen regularly. This is very easy to do in Cape Town.
The main ethnic foods are the many types of Indian food, Malay food, Chinese and of course the varying African foods. There are many European bakeries throughout the metropolitan area as well as traditional butchers and seafood markets. Unfortunately, very few Mexican restaurants, but they're working on that.
Finally, the prices are even lower than those in New Orleans. European visitors do their currency conversions twice because they can't believe it the first time. A top quality beef steak in Germany runs 4 to 5 times the price in Cape Town.

Greenville, SC also belongs in the top 5.
I believe they invented shrimp grits. Deserve lots of credit for that.

A bunch of guys that eat at Pappasitos in Katy when they visit their cousin are experts on Houston dining

Bangkok absolutely belongs on that list ... you can find the most complex noodle soup dish down an alley for $1.50 that will blow away any turtle soup or gumbo in Nola. And not worry about getting lost looking for it. Tough to compare the two really since one is much larger with more money / tourists coming through.
Not to mention the high level Indian, Japanese and Italian. There is even a German restaurant that made the world's top 50. The street food offerings alone sets it apart from the others on the list.

Pretty impressive since it’s not some local publication:
1. New Orleans
2. Bangkok
3. Medellin
4. Cape Town
5. Madrid
Slidell and Kenner not on this list is a travesty.
