quote:you can get all of these in New Orleans (although I’ll admit, I’m not impressed by the Mexican here), but did you seriously include VIETNAMESE as a cuisine that can’t be found in New Orleans?
Mexican, Cuban, BBQ, Thai, Vietnamese
What a fricking retard you are

I business traveled out side the US for 20 years, Middle East/fareast.While many point to the 5 star rated restaurants as an indicator of quality, 98 % of folks do not eat there.
Family owned restaurants and street food are the measure of quality.
rating of family rest.
4. Puerto Rico cubano/medalla
3. Japan. curried pork/saporo
2. Paka Malaysia. seafood/beer
1. New Orleans gas station. Roast beef po-boy/ used to be dixie

Love New Orleans restaurants, but that’s absolutely ridiculous.

London?
unless it's ethnic food, London isn't a good example

Have you been to the Asiantown area of Houston??? Nothing can be found like that outside of a handful of major cities. The Chinese buffet in NOLA isn’t comparable.

You are such a dumbass.
Do you not realize that Nola was the first place many Vietnamese settled to when they left their country? They have great restaurants all over the place here.

London is #5 in the ranking of cities with the most restaurants with Michelin stars.
True, but London has no cuisine that is original to the city outside of fish and chips. I am half English and I can tell you no English city should be on this list. Great food is available in London, but you have to pay top dollar to eat it and most of those chefs have been trained outside of the UK. I would put up any locally owned above average restaurant in New Orleans against anything you'll eat in London.
Paris not being in the top 5 is idiotic. Having Cape Town in the top 5 over Paris or Rome makes this list invalid.

I’ll say this- it’s certainly the most affordable best food. London or NYC- sure but the quality and value you can find on most corners in NO beats them.
Huh ? Most affordable ? Bro all you have to do is go down one spot to #2 Bangkok and i promise you they have every bit the variety and quality of food as NOLA and at FAR cheaper prices than New Orleans or any American city .

Capetown deserves to be on the list, but not in the top 5.
Paris, Rome, and Buenos Aires are snubs
Montreal making the top 20 is dumb
Bangkok being #2 is legit

Acadiana has better food at our gas stations than most cities have at their best restaurants

NYC just abounds with small places to get a quality soup or salad or sandwich or anything ethnic and a decent price.
I agree, but there’s plenty of stinkers in NYC as well. I don’t find many stinkers in NOLA.

Mexican is all over. We just don't have southern Mexican but that's rare anywhere. We have high end Mexican and street taco Mexican. That new place in the bywater is amazing. ACAMAYA check them out.
Bbq we have it but not next level. We've had good bbq but the pitmasters move on and can't keep up the quality.
I eat Thai once a week. I actively had tried to try every place. I've only been to a little over A DOZEN. vietnamese is OVER REPRESENTED in New Orleans. Likely one of the most popular cuisines.

Yay New Orleans doesn't suck at something.

I felt safer in Bangkok and Medellin

New Orleans is the place in the world, of all of the places I have been, in which you have the highest probability of having a very good meal by walking into a random restaurant. It also beats everywhere else on mid-price point food.
This. I tell people that you can find great food in any city in the world. Every city has great restaurants. Most cities also have a lot of really average to crappy restaurants. New Orleans is unique in that instead of intentionally looking for a great meal, you almost have to intentionally seek out bad food. Sure, there are restaurants which are not as good as their counterparts, and local/regional residents may say they aren’t good. However, many of those places, if actually looked at objectively don’t have *bad* food, they just aren’t as good as other restaurants.
