As much as it pains me to say it, today 11ish it was a grand total of 15 min from the Loyola exit to drinking in the sky lounge. This included a bag check.

There are a ton of people who are salty as frick that the airport isn't anywhere close to the disaster they were hoping for.

My relative got off a flight last night, went to baggage claim, and was picked up by a family member in 20ish minutes.

Was a breeze...

I flew out this morning and I had a similar experience. From short term parking to my gate was no more than 5 minutes. No one in PreCheck and didn't check a bag. Also more importantly no traffic getting in!

It will be hard to ever be "faster"than the old MSY but today's experience was enjoyable.

I showed up to MSY yesterday at 5pm. The traffic flowed smoothly coming from the city to Kenner.

-Dropped off right out front at 5pm., checked 2 bags, went through security, got a smoothie from smoothie king, and was sitting at my gate at 5:25pm

The only data point in the MSY threads that has been informative was the picture of the beer menu.

Flew in on Monday and flew out yesterday.

UBER and Lyft lines were long on Monday. No lines yesterday.

I rented a car and it takes a long time, about 20 minutes, to get to and from rental car area.

No real lines getting through security. It was very efficient.

Terminal in nice with lots of options for food.

Overall a good experience.

I flew out at 6:30 PM on the 6th. I was running late because of Baton Rouge traffic. I got to ParknFly at 5:15. ParknFLy dropped me at the airport at 5:35. I was through security and grabbed some chic fila, and got to my gate before boarding started at 5:50.

Flew out yesterday. It was a surprisingly pleasant and nice experience. Easy to park in short term. Easy walk to security, 5 minutes through there. Gate areas are nice. Seating in the B concourse seems a little sparse may get jammed up at busy times.

Gotta day, it’s a good airport.

MSY put out some updates. Most of them are the "we are making changes and seeing improvements" but there are a few good nuggets.

quote:

TSA completed the installation of 12 out of 15 screening lanes, and expects to have all 15 lanes installed by the end of the week.

quote:

For a positive customer experience, officials from both rideshare providers as well as the Airport staff are continuing to work together to make changes such as installing new signage, enhancing driver and passenger information and stationing additional traffic control personnel in the area. We’ve already seen some improvement and will adjust further if needed

quote:

In the coming weeks, we will be one of about four airports in the country to offer a program allowing customers who are not flying and don’t have a boarding pass the opportunity to visit the restaurants and shops located post security. The MSY Guest Pass will be available 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. to individuals who register ahead of time. This way, more people can come out and experience everything this terminal has to offer.

quote:

We are the sixth airport to offer Uber and Lyft’s new systems allowing travelers to use a code to take the next available car in the line rather than wait to meet a specific driver.

Flew out Friday and back in this morning.

Friday 9 am, took exactly one red light to get through the off ramp at loyola, and once I turned onto Loyola I never slowed down until I was on the property. Lights were perfectly synchronized.

Was surprised there wasn't an upper level connection between long term parking and the terminal. Parked on level 6, no problems.

Took maybe 10 min to get through TSA. I don't have precheck. Was 11 lines open.

When we passed the Uber/Lyft lines on Friday morning, maybe 10 people in each line, seemed to be moving well. This morning when we got back, maybe 2 people in each line. Also, TSA line looked about the same.

Now, let's talk about Leah's Kitchen. We had brunch there on Friday. That... was an absolute disaster. The service was HORRIBLE. The manager - who supposedly is a family member - couldn't give two shits. They were out of a ton of food. They have pepsi... which was weird in NOLA to me. Very slow, non-attentive service. They apparently don't realize that airport dining doesn't need to be fast food but it should't take almost an hour to get two omelettes one for the wife and one for me.

Thankfully we had plenty of time since we got there super early.

Also, we flew out of Concourse A. Outside of a restroom, there are NO Services on that concourse. It clearly looks like they are still working on that part of the terminal. Once you pass the dining/shopping between TSA and B, that's it. Just keep that in mind.

Flew out at 6pm last night, got to the airport around 3pm just to be on the safe side (since it was my first time at the new place).

1. They really should have done a 6-lane approach instead of 4-lanes. I know there's eventually going to be a flyover to take the majority of traffic but it's going to be quite traffic-y til then. There was moderate traffic when I rode up and Saturday afternoons aren't often a heavy travel time (especially at this time of year at MSY).

2. They are still working out some bugs. The TSA Pre-Check went a good bit slower than at the old airport. With the extra kiosks right beside the line they could use another person doing Pre-Checks.

3. The orientation of the airport is good, except in the afternoon/evenings when the sun is streaming into the terminals. The windows are ceiling-to-floor with not much tintings and no coverings. It makes eating at a place like Chili's (ie: in the center of the terminal) a raging pain in the arse because the sun is directly in your face in one direction or obscuring your phone/tablet's screen if you are in another.

4. I went to Chili's because I know their menu and the service level of the one near my house (which is normally quite good). The eating area is pretty wide open so there's no host/hostess, meaning you seat yourself and wait for the staff to realize you are there. I got there around 4pm, it took a good 15 minutes before a wait person came by, another 5 minutes for them to get my drink (which was never checked for a refill) and at least 30-45 minutes to get my order out (triple sampler). I took my time eating, maybe about 30 minutes, then waited another 30 minutes before my waitress came with the bill. I finally got the receipt maybe 10 minutes before my flight started boarding.

I spoke to a few employees while there, they all liked the new airport but all said there were still kinks working out (like the tv in a breakroom still not working).

All-in-all it wasn't bad, it just needs another few months of working out the kinks and get the fricking flyover done.
