New Orleans would not be the same place if it weren't for the NS.
Uh, what?

I swear people that live or are from Nola have this complex that they feel the need to dog on every other place to justify living there. Most seem like they have never even spent a significant amount of time over here.
Well, I'm not dogging the NS. Quite the opposite, actually. What I'm saying is that it would not be as great as it is without NOLA - that's it.

No, the Northshore is not as fun as Nola. But don't act like it is nevertheless a desirable place to live for people that aren't you. It's not a competition. I don't really get why people would move to Tangipahoa, but they still do
Well, I never said that at all, so it seems like I'm not the one with the complex...

But if it wasn't FOR New Orleans, then none of these people would be able to start their families on the NS. The reason Covington, and its ilk work, are specifically because of cities like NOLA - they go hand-in-hand.
If it wasn't for black migration into the city and integration there would be no Covington, suburban growth to the north shore would have been minimal. Areas of Jefferson and St. Bernard to support natural population increase could have been annexed into the city as a whole as opposed to white refuge and political division.

I probably should have made it clear earlier but I feel my friends who moved to the NS did it for the right reasons. They are just getting into money buying their second home and he married a woman with a daughter in HS. They couldn't afford private school or would have been strapped on the SS. I understand the move of some.

Having spent a lot of time on both sides of the lake, I would say that NS residents dog NOLA a lot more frequently than the other way around. Grew up on the NS and have nothing against it, but you hear a lot more shite from that side. It's understandable. NOLA is a polarizing place with a lot of good and bad qualities. JMO.

Sure, if you want to breakdown the socioeconomic conditions that led to it, then fine. I'm not arguing that point, either. But your point does help back mine up, so thank you.

Yep. I just wanted to keep it more real. The situation is tragic when there is no tax base in the city as a result of either rationality or cowardice. Suburbanite smugness is as bad as urbanite.

I buy into this, don't get me wrong.
I suppose I am referring more to people my age, who really are just making the decision on where to start their family.
I don't want my opinion to get lost though, I really like Nola, it's a really cool city. I didn't move away because of one reason, there were a variety of reasons that led me back to the Northshore, and I don't regret moving. That doesn't mean that Nola is a city free of problems, and I think it is laughable that anyone would argue that FEMA money didn't pay for a TON of deferred maintenence from the city after the storm.

So what? Who do you think pays for New York, California and Texas infrastructure??
Posted on 1/14/17 at 12:54 pm to Covingtontiger77
They were shite before but feet of water sitting on them for in some cases two weeks sure didn't help them.

Their own taxes.

But on the other hand I would rather that money stay in the country than the billions and billions we send each year to Middle East.
Don't kid yourself. That money is still going to the Middle East. Different pots of money, different budgets.

Northshore people commute and drive to NOLA a ton... when does anyone in NOLA ever have to drive to the Northshore?

This is a strict political play. Now mayor and JBE will act and appear to fight this....then it will be relieved and Dems will claim a victory. Mark my words
Either that, or they'll leave it in place and say Trump could have stopped it and didn't.
Nothing but politics

Yeah, there are quite a few in Nola I like to visit.

we also cleaned storm sewer in Cameron those basins were full of sand and silt, clearly due to storm surge we would pop the lid, vacuum out and go to the next one
Sounds exactly ilke what you would expect to be churned up out of the Gulf and rolled back off a beach.
quote:
in New Orleans we had to break the dirt with shovels, digging bars/etc it was so compacted you couldn't get the vacuum hose in the basin
Sounds exactly like what you would expect to be the product of failed levees and washed out topsoil from an urban area.

It is understandable. New Orleanians just do not think about the North Shore. Several on the north shore are all hate up with hate for NOLA. It is really sad.

of maybe a thousand catch basins we opened, there were probably only a few dozen that weren't compacted full to lid with dirt. that didn't happen due to storm surge or levee breaches
How exactly, did the daily rains drain from the city? You are so full of shite man.
