I’m sure the interstate numbers are meant to be approximates to land mass in either direction and not exact percentages.

Interstate numbers are even going east/west and odd going north/south.

Also, the interstate number is in direct correlation to the percentage of land mass to its north/south or east/west.

For example, if you’re traveling I-10, 90% of the land mass of the US is north of you and 10% is south of you.

If you’re driving on I-95 on the east coast, 5% of the land mass is to the east of you and 95% is to the west of you.

And so on, with each number…
