But there's going to be an awesome ribbon cutting ceremony for the Napolean work that was done on February 7th! That's cool right??

I just told you how fricked it was
of maybe a thousand catch basins we opened, there were probably only a few dozen that weren't compacted full to lid with dirt. that didn't happen due to storm surge or levee breaches

lol... I'm not the one throwing out facts like that. I don't think it's crazy to ask someone that is specifically claiming one thing to give the reasons why we should believe his hypothesis.

Posting pictures of other peoples mansion is pretty sad

This shite is stupid.... even my friends that have moved to the NS comment that they wish they could have swung it in the city and come down here almost every Sat and Sun to do cool shite.
I really loved living in New Orleans for a long time, but you cannot blame anyone for moving to the NS to start a family. I don't see those ppl, once the have kids, going to the SS every weekend.
These threads always have to be so polarizing. For as cool of a city as New Orleans is, it loses a ton of appeal once you have kids. It's expensive, there is fear of random crime even in the nicest areas, and it is crowded. Those aspects aren't debatable. You don't even think much of these when you are single, renting and going out 2-4 times a week, but housing prices alone (which essentially don't include school), are enough to preclude someone from starting a family there.
And if you want to get into pointless zero sum hypotheticals, where would Nola be if there were no Northshore. Point me to a successful city that doesn't have an affluent suburb 30-45 away. Covington isn't new, it is part of the greater Nola economy.

Right...
But if it wasn't FOR New Orleans, then none of these people would be able to start their families on the NS. The reason Covington, and its ilk work, are specifically because of cities like NOLA - they go hand-in-hand.

and how do you know that?
because storm surge didn't pack the catch basins full of soil up to the lid
because storm surge didn't fill them with tree roots
it was like an archeological dig...we found shite in those catch basins you would not believe

what proof would you like?
PSC was the contractor I ran the trucks for
we dumped at west end and at Poydras/north broad
we painted every catch basin lid with truck number, company name and date
we got paid thru the engineer by Fema per catch basin

Like what - I bet there was some freaky shite in there. Find anything cool, expensive, or that you had to call the cops about?

With all the stories of people struggling after floods, I know of 4 people qho git completely new houses and paid off their mortgages. Meanwhile my property taxes went up 600.00

we also cleaned storm sewer in Cameron
those basins were full of sand and silt, clearly due to storm surge
we would pop the lid, vacuum out and go to the next one
in New Orleans we had to break the dirt with shovels, digging bars/etc
it was so compacted you couldn't get the vacuum hose in the basin

we had a big bin at the dump site for guns
It would have at least two dozen every day from about 50 trucks
we found bones, bicycles, tires, street signs, lumber, tools, misc garbage, etc
some of them were so full of tree roots we had to get chain saws out

Damn, that's a lot of guns... You'd think New Orleans had a crime issue!

I completely understand that. That's why the term zero sum was used. New Orleans would not be the same place if it weren't for the NS.
I swear people that live or are from Nola have this complex that they feel the need to dog on every other place to justify living there. Most seem like they have never even spent a significant amount of time over here.
No, the Northshore is not as fun as Nola. But don't act like it is nevertheless a desirable place to live for people that aren't you. It's not a competition. I don't really get why people would move to Tangipahoa, but they still do
Posted on 1/14/17 at 11:33 am to cgrand
That's crazy, did all the guns go to the police to check the serial numbers or just get trashed?
