Attached is a PDF showing an overview of the whole city, colored by how much the price-per-square-foot the assessor’s office uses as a baseline for its assessments is changing. Not all the neighborhoods show up when the map is zoomed out, so you may need to zoom in to get some of them to appear.

How about removing the tax exempt status from the private universities in town before raising individuals property taxes?

I don't think that's as easy as it sounds. Especially for Loyola.

why would private universities be tax exempt? Is this a NOLA thing or is this common practice?

Need to get rid of that Robert E Lee Blvd as well, that will help with the flooding issues.

I thought they were mostly tax exempt organizations, if not through 501c3, some other code section.

Well, because Tulane's exemption from all taxation in the state of Louisiana is a constitutional amendment and New Orleans can just not like it all they want, but they can't do anything about it on their own.

ETA: Not an amendment. Actually in the Constitution.

ETATA: Now, we can debate whether or not Tulane currently is living up to the terms of the exemption and whether or not it has violated the terms and should be forfeit of the exemption. That's a fun one.

My friend in the Bywater got a notice that her property is going to be assessed at 400k. It's a small double. It's been listed at 300k for almost a year. I wonder if Erroll wants to buy it from her.

That would be a great law. The right to sell your house to the city at the assessed value. Maybe they would be a little more careful.

In Texas they don't even have to get any approval to increase it 10% every 4 years.

If we weren't being frickED out of Insurance premiums, we could pay more prop tax and get better shite.
