I think it’s going to be a fun few months at city hall if the rates are as they appear.

What do people get in return for the taxes we already pay?

A zoo?

You would have to have a mayor that is concerned about such things.

She just sees the extra dollars coming in to pay for her social calendar.

How long until upping the homestead exemption comes up?

Something tells me that things needs to be done in order to help the 'life blood' of the city from being pushed out of their generational homes.

Look, if you live in New Orleans, the assessor is just one in a very long line of jackasses waiting to frick you over. What is truly amazing to me is the out-of-town jackazzes who have no ties here lining up to buy piece-of-shite properties for 300k+ and spreading their cheeks for their first of many New Orleans-style enemas offered up by NOLA officials until their asses can no longer take the ramming.

Sooner or later, the housing prices will crash, but until people use their God-given brains and stop buying ridiculously priced homes even in neigbhorhoods where they might get rat-a-tat-tatted up the azz on their first day in the home stepping outside to get their New Orleans Advocate Times Picayune Newspaper (or whatever the hell they're calling it) on the stoop, then they will continue to get rammed in the a$$.

So, in that aspect, it is like every major city in America?

Isn't the amount of money they collect static? I recall some taxes in EBR being set up so that if property values go up then the amount taxed per dollar valuation goes down.

I’m just happy my ignorant constituents voted recently to extend the zoo’s gravy train.

I was reading today there are several things that can happen with the assessments, but any decision would have to be approved by the zoo and the school board!!!! I’m sure they’ll keep the best interests of the home owner in mind.

Not unless those people are paying 10% higher water bills each year for 8 consecutive years for a better water system and still having multiple boil water alerts and car/home floodings each year in those respective cities.

Must be why they wanted that vote to happen earlier this year rather than waiting like everyone thought they should.

What does that have to do with the assessments?

How about removing the tax exempt status from the private universities in town before raising individuals property taxes?

And churches need to pay taxes. Why in Jesus name are churches exempt from paying their fare share?

Here's what I don't understand: how is Tulane's tax exemption, any different from the treatment any other private university gets? I thought they were all nonprofit organizations, so don't they ALL get the same tax treatment?

Are other universities paying taxes that Tulane is not?

There is a corner lot house in my neighborhood that up until last year was owned by Holy Cross College. The President/Head of the College lived there. They paid no property tax.

Around five years back WWLTV did story about scores of residential homes that pay no property taxes in Orleans Parish, the forementioned house was one of the one pictured.

Blows my mind why Tulane does not pay property taxes. Most the students come in from other parts of the country and leave after graduating. Tulane has never been known as a locals commuter college where kids actually stay upon graduating, at least not in the past 30 years.

Really? They hand out scholarships to politician family members as bribes.

One thing that hasn’t gone down are my rentals on Burthe, a few blocks away from Tulane campus—up 26% since 15!
