Idk, I see the east is going up and there isn’t too much gentrification happening out there.

I think they just actually realized they could make money like this.

I'm up 183k, neighbor across the street is up 293k, 210 to 503. Look, I'm not going to argue that 210k is a fair value for his house seeing that lots sell for 250, but to jump up that much in one year is absurd. That's the fault of the assessor's office, not the homeowners.

There should be a max % increase in one year. But hey, at least I've had a patch repair job from the S&WB down the street for a year plus now.

The way I'm looking at it, they just effectively removed the homestead exemption of $7,500 on my house by increasing my assessment by that amount.

Why doesn't Errol's chart show any places with 80% jumps, though? Looks like he tops out at 3.241 (was he trying to get to Pi???)

Well, because Tulane's exemption from all taxation in the state of Louisiana is a constitutional amendment and New Orleans can just not like it all they want, but they can't do anything about it on their own. ETA: Not an amendment. Actually in the Constitution. ETATA: Now, we can debate whether or not Tulane currently is living up to the terms of the exemption and whether or not it has violated the terms and should be forfeit of the exemption. That's a fun one.

Here's what I don't understand: how is Tulane's tax exemption, any different from the treatment any other private university gets? I thought they were all nonprofit organizations, so don't they ALL get the same tax treatment?

Are other universities paying taxes that Tulane is not?

I know the state constitution says that about Tulane. I'm just wondering if it actually has any effect.

Tulane was originally a state university taken private, that's why it's officially the Tulane University of Louisiana (take that ULL types )

part of the deal when it was taken private was the scholarships...frankly it's not Tulane that should be held accountable, but the politicians who can give them out!!!!! I remember when Eamon Kelly was president of Tulane, he tried to get them to be all merit based.
