According to the map provided in the link I am good. However, the next block down is getting the 0.25-0.5 assessment. Owning a residence in Orleans Parish for longer than a year means I know that they surely have this map frickd up and actually it will be my block that gets it

I miss the old days when we had seven assessors. You could take yours out to lunch at Ruth's on Broad once a year on a Friday and not have any increase.

Yep. Sure did. And I meant East Broadmoor not North Broadmoor

Errol doesn't know what the word 'percent' means.
That's comforting to realize.

The market over the past several years skyrocketed due to STR. Out of state buyers were buying properties to rent out. Now that it's illegal, the market is saturated with units, especially in the FQ. I'm seeing that they're looking at increased appraisals of 80%.
STR truly fricked this city.
There can't be a middle class in Nola due to increased rents and taxes.

How about removing the tax exempt status from the private universities in town before raising individuals property taxes?

There are a few empty houses in my hood that were being used solely for STR, now they sit empty and neglected.

Here's what I don't understand: how is Tulane's tax exemption, any different from the treatment any other private university gets?
The state really needed to unburden itself from the costs of operating the University of Louisiana but there was opposition to just closing it. (Sounds fricking familiar, doesn't it?)
Paul Tulane agreed with the idea of keeping the university open and donated a metric frickton of money and land in the late 1800's for the purposes of taking the University of Louisiana private. In return, the state agreed to turn over operation of the university to Tulane's private board and to exempt Tulane University (of Louisiana) from all non-federal taxation, provided that the university not engage in for-profit activities and that all of its money go to the operation, upkeep, growth, etc., of the university. In return for THAT, the university further agreed that it would admit students from every senate and representative district and the city of New Orleans free of charge.
In 1884, the legislature passed the act that made this all happen. State constitutions since then have basically had a section that said 'Tulane: See Acts of 1884, Act 43'.
That part about putting all the money toward furthering the university is the one where Tulane's gotten REAL shady. The extent and value of its real estate holdings don't seem to jive with that idea. They sometimes seem to ride a fine line there.
