Dogs can be infected but they can’t pass it back to humans I believe

This isn't new. We've known pets, dogs especially, can contract it. However, their viral load isn't generally high and the virus doesn't cause much harm. They cannot infect humans. Unless you eat them, probably.

Both the infected dogs were, possibly, from the same home. They were tested because their owner had Corona, she recovered, but the dogs had already been tested.
When the first one died, the owner declined an autopsy. IMO that was a major mistake and lost potential for studying the science of the virus.
Hopefully the German Shepherd will be studied especially to see if the organ damage is also present in the dog.
There's a possibility that the test kits used ended up finding something else of the canine ilk because I can't imagine they took the time to do a full fledged PCR test on the dog.
