Uptown come the Thursday before Mardi Gras there are parades inside of 24 hours till Tuesday so leaving your stuff wouldn't seem to be an issue as far as the city messing with it.

The 24 hour thing seems aimed at the Endymion route where people set up days in advance.

They're for kids. If it helps the kids have more fun and let parents keep them in one place easier then I'm all for it. I've paraded uptown for years now and never had a problem with the hordes of ladders and still caught tons of stuff.

Sorry, but every time I go, the ladders block off more people than they allow see. They are never to the back. It's like one row of people, then ladders, then everyone behind. The kids are up there for the first half, then it's just parents hanging out on the back of them.

I grew up around parades in other towns and never had issue with kids seeing the parade and ladders were never needed. I can see how they would be nice if used properly. But every time I've been to that area, I see people that piss me off more than I see kids properly utilizing them.

Endymion.

If you hold that sign up on the sidewalk side during endymion I will try my hardest to throw every single bead I have at you. And I'll make the two guys next to me throw all theirs at you too.

I know a few years back uptown on Nap they were enforcing it, i.e. between the curbs of side streets because we got fricked by the cops who sat there and watched us set up and get settled in for about 30 minutes then told us we couldn't set up there. By that time all other places that weren't already filled up had been. Complete shite show.

Last year our go to spot was Napoleon and Prytania and they only enforced when it was more than an hour before the parade. Once it got less than an hour they didn't care and actually had a lot of their own family/friends down there.

Enclosed tents will not be allowed on parade routes this year, said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, who described them as a security threat. Residents can, however have canopies, he said.
