Well, yeah, it is a newspaper based around race. It should be expected.

Yeah I suppose at this point we do expect all black leaders to sit for interviews with race-oriented media. Like that time that white mayor did an interview with the white power newspaper in that city I heard about.

Let’s change the name to Queen Cake so the mayor feels welcome.

ETA: Maybe herzhonor could learn to lighten up from her husband.

“Jason Cantrell, an assistant city attorney and son of Magistrate Commissioner Harry Cantrell, was issued a summons for simple possession of marijuana after a joint fell out of his pocket and onto the floor while talking to New Orleans Police Department officers on Monday. Cantrell, who is married to a candidate for the District B seat on the city Council, LaToya Cantrell, is a first time offender and was cited and let go under the city policy for low-level marijuana cases.”

And who is that? Moreno is the only one polling right now and she'd get smoked.

Because of her incompetence she let dangling bodies and a destroyed hotel sit there for over a year, destroyed the economy, has let New Orleans crime rate be at an all time high, and made us a laughing stock, yet she's Person of the Year?

These people are flat out mentally ill. Cantrell is one of many. She’s not the only one. And they’re being encouraged.

Unfortunately people of her ilk are growing as a percentage of the population and power structure in this country. I just don’t see the trend reversing. The pendulum has swung too far. We’re pretty much fricked as a nation.

So basically anyone who opposes her in any way is racist. Nice and simple, huh?

She’s basically blaming the remaining white people in orleans parish, who happen to be overwhelmingly liberal. Not a lot of right wingers living in Nola proper.

How’s about let her hang on the Lee Circle Pedestal with her legs dangling for, let’s say around 10 months.

A racist is a racist. Latoya has been that since Day 1.

So you are a mayor of a city that, according to the latest census data, is 60% black and you are claiming that you don’t have a statue in that predominantly black city because you are......black?

”That has been a part of the fabric, Cantrell candidly says. “It’s not fair, and it doesn’t feel good. I don’t think it’s deserving. I think if I were a man, I would have a statue by now based on what we have been able to do. But a lot of the things go unacknowledged simply because I am a woman and I am Black. The decisions I have had to make haven’t been popular, but are necessary. It’s almost like you have to fight the same battles even though you have demonstrated that you can make sound decisions. Still, every decision you make is always scrutinized. I even feel the pressure; it is like it comes harder from White men. It’s unacceptable. It really is.”

quote:
When asked if she saw the recent failure of the three-part millage as a referendum on her as mayor, Cantrell says, “no”. Instead, she sees it as a sign—one that Black New Orleanians must also recognize, she says. “What I do is I look at the numbers. It is very important we do that. When you look at who voted for it, the majority of African-Americans did. When you look at who stood to gain the most, it is African-Americans in this community. So you had a shift where Black folk didn’t turn out like we thought they would have based on the polling, based on the outreach and all that. And then you had something contentious on there with the library. So, turnout was low. Black folks voted for it. The White community did not, and what that means to me is that Black folk really need to stand up (for the things that their communities need).”

What a delusional count

I really hate when race and gender are made a central issue in political discussions. I have a white female friend who lives in NO and loves Latoya. I have no doubt she will be re-elected

I have some bad news for you, she'll very likely be re-elected.

I wonder if that will be the case if the rumors that she is hardnosing JBE and saying things like "what the frick do you want" to his emissaries bringing her messages from the governor, are true. I mean surely there is a more suitable democrat that can run for mayor right? I would never vote for a democrat but there has to be a less insane option right?
