Far away from that shite hole. Moved to Texas after the hurricane. I can tell you for a fact that New Orleans looked better in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and even early 00s then it does now.

I Googled and apparently the Grey Ghost is dead. In the 90s that guy single handedly scrubbed the city of graffiti. His absence is obvious.

St Charles Avenue looks like total dog shite from I-10 to Jackson Ave. 65-70% of the business that were once flourishing on this corridor are now closed up permanently. Highly depressing

I just had the great misfortune of driving up I65 from San Antonio to Dallas. My god how many millions jammed in to that corridor.? So many cheap strip malls iI thought I was on the N Shore. Not for me.

I can't even comprehend these apologists. It's straight-up denial because there is no 'opinion' about it. The city looks worse and that's an absolute fact.

I see the Navy base on Poland Ave has been in the news recently. I remember when that was open. I watched some videos on YouTube and it's an abandoned shite hole graffiti covered squatter encampment. It's a disgrace.

Well after Katrina opp could have been rebuilt in the east but they chose to rebuild in the heart of the city and put a multi billion dollar medical corridor right along side of it.
Sensible
They wanted to keep the inmates close to the courthouse and they didn't want to take the accessibility for inmates and families to connect.

It’s fricked. But the Katrina comment is just dumb.

100%. I was in NOLA four or five weeks after Katrina to help friends get into their home that flooded... water over the edges of their house roof. I will never forget the way the city looked. It looked like a post-apocalyptic Mad Max wasteland. Still wasn't electricity in a lot of areas. We were told by police we should get out of the city before dark. That drive, which we probably waited a little too long to begin, was one of the craziest things I have ever seen. It looked like the movie The Day After, driving through a wasteland with people that looked like sketchy AF zombies walking around. Even St. Bernard Parish a year after the storm was crazy. Still looked like the aftermath of a warzone.

That’s what democratic leadership does over multiple years. But hey they still do have wonderful food.

I remember going to the Plaza in the East in the 80s

That Ice rink was da bomb, yo!
That shopping center was fancy.
Can you imagine something like that in NO East now? Hell no!

New Orleans is in bad shape, terrible actually, but I am not sure cruising Google Maps gives a good indication of how good or bad a place is.

That may be true, but it is a helluva lot safer than actually visiting.
