Right. The people saying “this happens every year. It’s nothing” are low functioning retards. Obviously there will be temporary solutions implemented until the saltwater intrusion subsides, but this is not a problem that is dealt with every year by any means

we always drank bottled water in NOLA. Even now I live in BR and supposedly it’s the best water - I drink bottled water

A ton of the bottled water is just tap water packaged. Dasani is a big one.

This has been happening forever, it just rarely makes it this far up river. Soon enough, we’ll hear the Mississippi is racist and we need federal money to fix the water systems.

How long would NOLA water be undrinkable for? I’ve yet to see one media outlet address this

In 1988 the wedge got as far north as Kenner. There were no issues at that time.

Do yall understand that it’s not the saltwater intrusion that’s the issue? It’s how far the saltwater is intruding. There’s a major difference in a 20 mile intrusion and a 100 mile intrusion

Speaking of “low functioning retards”…

The saltwater wedge threatening water systems occurs just about every time there is a low-water event on the Mississippi. Most of time, it’s communities along the river in Plaquemines. Is it a concern? Sure. Much like high-water events and the opening of the Bonnet Carre.

Having personally been involved with finding solutions to the wedge, I can say it happens more often than you know or the media reports, albeit not every year.

Before calling people “low functioning retards”, don’t respond in manner that labels you one.

Not worried about drinking water. More concerned with impacts to my home appliances.

Reports are New Orleans should be impacted by late October and worst case scenario impacts could last through December.

Thank you for proving my point. It usually affects plaquemines because they are further south. Hence the special nature of this year’s intrusion projected to make it over 100 miles upriver. Which certainly doesn’t happen every year or anything close to it

I was surprised to learn that New Orleans got their drinking water from the Mississippi River. I figured they got it from the same aquifer Baton Rouge does.

Lots of people drink tap water in New Orleans.

Can you find the levels for the 2011/2012 drought?

It would be interesting to compare levels during consecutive years of drought and how that impacts the salt wedge. I'm just too lazy right now to dive into it.

I live, and grew up, in Old Metairie. I’ve drunk tap water every day of my life, mostly here in Metairie, but also when I was at LSU, when I lived in Pontchatoula, Slidell, Madisonville, and when I’m in Utah. I’m hale and hearty and my dick hasn’t fallen off. Then again I don’t whine about covid or vaccines.

The salt wedge didn't even make it to Belle Chase last year.

It is ok to say this is an abnormal year.

We sleep upstairs, if I run out of my cup or bottle of Kentwood water during the night then I have no problem walking to the bathroom 5' away instead of going downstairs, and filling my cup or bottle up with tap water.....then I also bathe in it and brush my teeth with it......
