I know it's unrealistic because there is no money to do this and who knows when there will be because of the virus impacts, but, now would actually be the BEST time to begin working on that interstate interchange when there isn't a lot of traffic at the airport or on the nearby interstate. I'd think it makes construction way easier to get done from a logistical standpoint.

Jan and Feb 2020 numbers were off the charts for MSY.
Now that we are able to get back to work, I was hoping MSY would use the reduced capacity time to make some changes to fix problems at the new terminal.

We actually looked into flying but there are no direct flights and we would have had a layover in Houston so we drove instead. And the flights were expensive.
We have a condo in NO that we wanted to check on since we didn't come for jazz fest, and we are both working from home so it doesn't matter that we are here for two weeks

TSA total passenger numbers have very slowly been starting to rise the past few weeks but still about 5-10% nationally of what they usually are. Yesterday was the busiest travel day since March 24th actually. I would imagine hot spots like MSY and the NYC area will be among the last to rebound, I don't think things will improve much until the holidays when people travel the most. The MSM has pretty much scared all the Karens from leaving their homes under any circumstances.

Commercial air travel is going to have to rebuild almost from scratch. At least one major airline is likely to disappear and international travel won't be back to 2019 levels for 5-10 years, if it ever does.

I would be shocked if any of the big 4 are allowed to fail. Perhaps some further consolidation with Alaska, Frontier or JetBlue getting gobbled up.
But if you're going to be on it, bet American. They are in a much worse cash position that United. When asked by the analyst community what their strategy was to pay off the astronomical debt they are adding on top of their existing debt, it was crickets until CEO Doug Parker came in with a very confidence inspiring answer of "we'll use future earnings"

The mayor being an idiot doesn't make New Orleans a hot spot. Orleans Parish doesn't even have the most total cases in the state anymore.

When the new terminal opened it didn’t appear the interstate exit was necessary. It still probably isn’t..

-- All funds for the construction of interchange modifications have already been allocated and are "in the bank".
-- They have already been working on the intersection modifications, driving pilings and such for the flyover.
-- Demolition of the hotel south of the interchange (which needs to be removed to build the flyover ramps) started last week.
