“New” New Orleans Airport is operating at 3% capacity

Looks like we were all wrong on needing that interstate interchange to airport. We may not need it after all.
WGNO. New MSY airport is nearly deserted — one concourse closed completely
New Orleans – Planning to fly somewhere soon? Don’t worry about getting to the airport early. Two hours before takeoff? Nah, a half hour ought to be plenty.
Before coronavirus scared away fliers, an average of 40,000 passengers passed through Louis Armstrong International (MSY) every day. Now, the number is in the hundreds, or fewer.

I'm sure this is the case around much of the country. How many people are flying right now compared to 6 months ago?

Why would anyone fly to new orleans right now? Nothing's open and it doesn't seem like anything will open anytime soon thanks to your mayor and governor. I'll spend my money elsewhere

I’m not sure this will improve anytime soon. Can’t imagine many folks wanting to fly in to New Orleans

Yes but tomorrow there will be 2 new deaths instead of 3 today. And 48 new cases statewide instead of 52. So it's worth it.

There are a veritable plethora of visual pleasures to be had in the Crescent City even in this time of modern-day plague. If one is an architectural aficionado, there are many weeks’ worth of walking tours to be had in and about the greater New Orleans area. One may pack a Lunch and take to miles and miles of local sidewalks to appreciate and familiarize themselves the rich stock of aesthetically-pleasing and historic structures here. All this fun can be had while still maintaining the appropriate social distancing that the local authorities have deemed necessary to implement and getting plenty of exercise to boot!

Also what industry wants to have the PR hit of having their convention in NO and then having people come down with covid?
Not saying it’s necessarily justified but it would be a dumb PR hit for the next year or two

Yeah I wouldn't say tourist will flock back, but there will be a lot of people wanting to visit Nola. Nola has been in great shape since around April 20th and could have went into Phase 1 from what I can tell. Destroya wouldn't tell you that though.
Summer is always slow and no big events will happen in the fall, so it's going to be a rough year.

There are plenty of conventions planned during hurricane season despite it flooding during Katrina.
