be kind and firm. tell him how it really is and how he should behave. tell him that people are talking about the way he acts and talks and in order to make it in corporate america he has to work on himself.

give him the cold hard truth and let him decide if this is something he's ready to do. if it is, then be a good leader and lead him. if he's not, then let him go. he could be the best hire ever if you give him a chance to be.

Maybe one day you will have your own office like a big boy instead of a cubicle.

You want to see socially awkward? Get into the trucking industry - plenty of those mfers wind up there and in way worse condition than your examples.

Help him understand his purpose, know that he is part of your organization, its mission and his role, and demonstrate how your team will support him to set him up for success.
Find out his strengths and development areas and show him how to utilize former and create a development plan for the latter. Illustrate for him who his key stakeholders are for the output/impact of his role.

Then, get out of his way.

Until then, try to get out of your own way flip your energy to support vs. ridiculing.

Sounds like you’re concerned about him banging your slightly chub girlfriend and then finding her newly married best friend that she hates and banging her too.

Offer to carry his ammunition for him. That way, he CAN'T kill you.

So maybe this guy is on the spectrum. Getting a job, epecially a good job, is damn near impossible for some people on the spectrum. Including my son, who goes in interviews but never gets the job because of how he is perceived. Perception of others is really his major handicap. Think about that. How you and your coworkers perceive this guy could determine whether he eats or had a place to live. Don't be that guy.

You just showed in front of everyone how lazy you are

He will replace you soon. Better freshen up that resume

It sounds like this is his first job and he's struggling between trying desperately hard to hurry up and prove himself in order to fit in and trying to work this new job into the framework of his strangeness.

You have two choices:

1. Continue to giggle and snicker behind his back and let him fail his way out of the company.

2. Take him under your wing and try to correct his behavior issues.

#1 would be far easier, #2 would be far more challenging but could end up far more rewarding (because it sounds like he's got a LOT of insecurities).
