You sure don’t seem like a very resourceful person.

Somebody sounds insecure about the new guy.
You're one of those guys who end up staying in one position their entire career because they have no perception of when they need to step up and be a leader. Your boss picks up on these things whether you realize it or not.

Give him a week or two to level out. Whether you decide to retain your job or do something else is in no way contingent upon him.

Yep. He and his office mates snickering behind his back are the immature ones.

Title promotions aren’t really promotions. If you aren’t put in some sort of leadership role, they’re just giving you a new name and calling it a promotion to make you feel better

Always refer to the company policy manual. I made the mistake years ago by passing on shortcuts to a new hire that were not in the manual.

At a staff meeting several weeks later a question arose regarding a "how to handle" a difficult situation. The new hire pointed at me and said, "I know, I know because he told me what to do and how to do it"

From then on I would quote corporate policy when asked a question from
new hires.

Yeah, I don't think this went the way OP envisioned it would go.

What should I do? Ignore him, take a shite on his desk, PIIHB, update my resume?

Pretty shameful that the only option you left out was to help him assimilate into his new job. Do the right thing.

Ohhh working from home is so evil so let’s have our employees be late everyday from morning traffic and stick them in an open office with multiple distractions like ping pong tables and cry rooms.

Maybe the kid is weird. Maybe he is socially awkward. He’s also new…which means there’s a chance to mentor him. At the end of the day, you’re the one working with him.

He takes the better part of an hour to attempt to set up his desk equipment. It’s a normal docking station - super intuitive, just plug shite in and go. The kid interrupts me while I’m in the middle of a conference call to ask me why his mouse isn’t working. I nicely put myself on mute and defer him to a colleague.

Yeah, big conference call from your cubicle.

What’s keeping you from mentoring him and showing him the ropes of the company?
