I'm sure being a dick behind his back will help a lot.
You may be right, but what's your end goal here? To have a competent coworker? He's very likely not stupid if your boss brought him on and probably understands he's awkward. I'd bet he kicks himself all day at the rather unusual shite he says to try to fit in.
Just be nice to him. Forgive any perceived social transgressions that aren't outright malicious. Him saying he could kick your arse in ping pong, I know it's crazy, that's him trying to be one of the guys, show that he can talk shite. Him talking about his lunch, and again I know it's batshit, but that's him trying to come off as interesting and win the approval of everyone there.
Just be nice. That's all you have to do. He will eventually relax more, even if he doesn't get rid of his inclinations.

1. I didn’t know you worked at the library
2. Maybe he’s on the autism spectrum
3. Was he homeschooled?

This kid is an Alpha. He will be your boss in 2 years. He was testing you on the very first day and boldly saying he would kick your arse in ping pong. You might want to start looking for other jobs.

This! You might just grow as a leader in the process.

Sounds like you're about to be replaced by this awkward weirdo

Sounds like he has a touch of the tism

Based on what you describe, I see you as Timmy

This shite pisses me off to no end. I was having an in person meeting with the boss while we were going over the financial impact of Ida to the company. New hire (been w the company a few weeks), just stands in my door waiting to be acknowledged. Had the owner not acknowledged him first, I would have sent his arse home on the spot. One of my managers told me he stood there for 2-3 minutes just waiting to be acknowledged and listening to the conversation.

Why don’t you help him out. He’s probably nervous as shite and obviously the higher ups at your job saw something that you did not. Careful too, that kid may be your next boss since you sit around on TD all day playing.

Anyone who uses corporate jargon has a bullshite job. If you say the words synergy, circle back, pivot, take this offline, or any of that dumb shite, you're a useless leech

It’s his first day. Give him a break. You just sound like you don’t like him which is fine but you have to be able to work with him. Invite him out with a group for a beer. You might warm up to him.

Sounds to me like you’re gatekeeping and are threatened by him

You sound like one of those assholes that gets pissed at his kid for not hitting home runs in tee ball.

Give the kid a break. Yea, so he's a little socially awkward. We all were on our first day of our first real job out of college. He'll learn the ropes professionally and socially soon enough. And if he doesn't, you should probably become close work friends with him in case he decides to shoot up the place one day. Give him snickers every day. As Dane Cook once brilliantly said, the day he comes in blasting door to door, he'll kick in your door, look at you, and whisper "thanks for the candy" then go on to the next door.
