I wonder what the permit requirements are to open a truck stop with a 24 hour strip club like the Gainesville has. That would be a good investment especially if the truck stop is nice and clean.

Would be wildly popular too!

BTW the name of that place is Cafe Risque'. Been there exit 374 off i75.

Yup, in addition to me hearing largest Amazon DC and remembering all the hassles I’ve had I’m also thinking this place is in BR. It’s gonna start out as efficient as a Popeye’s drive-thru.

I have never stopped there. I have just seen the signs when I was driving to Miami.

Putting a hooters in a mega truck stop would probably make money too. I'm going to call some of my fraternity brothers who are now in the commercial real estate business and run the idea past them. I may even consider giving the OT truckers a TD discount.

Maybe Amazon is planning on replacing human truck drivers with self-driving trucks. Then they do not have to worry about where truckers can take their breaks.

Oh it's going to be efficient....for Amazon.

Baton Rouge isn't like Dallas, Memphis, or Nashville. It's distribution business is more inland waterway, river, and pipeline. It will take a year or two before there are more services and business geared towards truck drivers in the area, but they will come. Plenty of properties around Cortana and along Airline that can handle that.

If I had the money, I'd open up a giant travel center with at least 25 gas pumps up front, 15 diesel truck pumps out back, tire repair center, a truck wash, a full service local restaurant, and a giant parking area with lighting and security. Then I'd try to nab a national chain fast food restaurant (Whataburger) for an adjacent outparcel. Somewhere in the LA415/I-10 area or out towards Livingston along I-12.

At that point all I'd really have to do is to keep the place clean and safe. Maybe then move on to develop adjacent parcels into distribution centers for spec.

Bonus points if I can run a video poker outfit in the back of the restaurant.

More power to them if they manage it. Mine gets so many false positives I wouldnt want to be anywhere near it driving itself.

It would require a new parish ordinance IIRC.

There are only a very limited number of strip clubs in BR and the legislation limits them to those specific addresses, which is probably the main reason why The Earl is now gone but the titty bar on the outskirts of the property remains.

Main reason I know is that a friend runs a music venue in town and he’s had to shut things down and kick the band off stage because they were doing shite that would have gotten the venue in trouble because they aren’t licensed for that.

Why do you think they are for $15 minimum wage. Because it destroys small business and continues to build their automated army

They still have to pay the workers they don’t employ anymore. They pay them in welfare, jails, etc.

That's a big building. Amazon has 3 with a footprint that size, on I-4, between exit 38 and 55. They are just 30-40 feet tall, so they don't have 5 stories to garner the massive square footage from.

Imagine all the Amazon trucks waiting in traffic next year when the interstate is down to one lane

This. I mean which bridge will all these trucks be using. Seems like a lot more traffic across the old bridge then ever before.

Just had an article on here about laying off 10,000 folks.

That not happening now?

The cuts focus on Amazon's device organization, retail division, and Human Resources. Should not affect fulfillment centers.

Weird bump.

And I knew that 3 million square feet is massive……but the first time I saw it I was still very impressed. That’s a huge building.

In Baton Rouge's case - it's going to be a couple of thousand (eventually) people. But they are a lot cheaper than the bloated staff in both of Amazon's HQ's, which is where the cuts are happening.
