....and likely the most automated, with thousands of robots.

Amazon at Cortana will be largest prototype center chock-full of new tech, developer says

Jonathan Stites, a senior vice president with Seefried, said the Cortana facility will be the largest prototype fulfillment center for Amazon and will feature the latest technology the company has to offer.
The building will be nearly 90 feet tall, with the second through fifth floors taken up by storage, robotics and conveyors, which will pluck items and transport them down to the first floor for packaging and distribution. None of the items stored in the Cortana center will be sent directly to customers; instead the facility acts as the first cog in the distribution system Amazon has established.
The demolition of Cortana started less than a month ago and is expected to go through August-September. Plans are to transform the entire site, not only replacing the shopping center with a huge warehouse, but ripping up the parking lot and replacing much of it with landscaping.

I'm excited for some same-day delivery.

I think they'll have everything but Dillards done within 15 days. They are astonishingly fast.

Obligatory “it’ll never be ready in time” and complaints about the visible white pvc pipe

Deliveries will be late due to poor piss traffic management in Baton Rouge.

Demolishing the aboveground stuff is the easy part.
Digging out the foundations and recycling the concrete and backfilling in the current weather pattern we have is another story.
No doubt they are getting after it but what you see aboveground is only half the battle.
I'm still a non-believer that a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued by 08/2022.

Robots will actually show up to work

They don't actually recycle concrete onsite. And they've already removed the foundation for at least two of the department stores and much of the mall as of last week.
You've got a point about the weather, but I doubt even Louisiana will see another week this year like you guys saw earlier this month. That was insane.

I asked this in another thread.
What are they going to do with the firestone tire shop on site? Is it going to stay open? Do they have enough business to stay open or is amazon going to buy it and use it for their fleet?

______
Firestone looks to be staying open. I'm sure the businesses around that site are thankful it will be getting one hell of a face-lift.

Yeah looks like Firestone is going to stay open. I guess it was owned separately.

Yes they do typically on large jobs although I’m not sure if they are doing it at Cortana or not.
FYI the Costco in BR was done this way. They demolished the old Coca Cola plant and recycled the concrete onsite and spread it over the whole site as base.
I do have a hard time believing they brought in virgin fill to backfill the foundation holes from the demo. Not like they could even get dry fill in this weather pattern.

Firestone will remain open - they were doing okay and wanted to continue business without interruption. Amazon did not buy that property.

I hear workers will have state of the art piss bottles to use at their workstations.

That Cane's in front of Cortana is going to start setting sales records once this place opens.

I'd still love to know what BR bureaucrats are planning to do with the THOUSANDS of extra semis per day that are going to be using Airline to get to/from Cortina and the interstates, also where they plan on having all this extra truck traffic stop for their federally mandated breaks.
I'll have my popcorn ready.
