Good to see all the neck beards here freaking out about this because Reddit and Facebook told them to.
Good to see all the little sheep celebrating because Trump said NN was bad since obummer did it.
We can play this game all day.

My absolute favorite part of this entire thread is EVERY SINGLE ONE of Stouts posts were heavily downvoted, until this one said Obama.
He said the same thing in every post, but throw Obama in there and boom, bring on the upvotes.
A fitting microcosm for the trump administration and all of the degenerate morons that put them into power.

I’m not taking my ball and going home. I’d just find another site to visit.
What’s the big deal?
What’s the big deal?

not calling it the end of days here, but don't think what happened today is a favorable outcome for the consumer.

So run your own lines. I understand that the upfront costs would be high, but if there is a legitimate chance to capture a market share, someone will do it.

Is there anything stopping a new startup ISP from breaking into the market
Yes. Google failed at breaking into that market. You think someone else will be able to do it?

can't a new ISP break through the market
How? Do you know what an ISP is?

Let me just go pay to run my own lines so I can "compete" with the guy who had the local govt pay for 90% of the lines he owns

I think its pure fantasy world that the FCC is going to open up thr telecom industry to more competition.
Theres zero reason to do that.

How'd that work out for Google?
It's getting to a point where lines will no longer be needed, people. WSIPs are going to become more common and are easier to install. This is where we have always been going towards.
The other barrier of entries though are permits.

dont lose my free porn
I consume as much of the free stuff as anyone but I would actually be interested in seeing the result of everyone paying a little for their porn. Think of how innovative the industry could be and the talent they could hire if they were fully funded. It would make even the good stuff we have now look pedestrian.
Still it sucks that NN was axed today. I'd be interested in seeing just who voted either way.

I'm freaking out about it because I am in the IT industry and before that I was a senior engineer at a telecom.
I have over 20 years experience in telecommunications on both the voice side and now data side.
I'm freaking out about this repeal much in the same way medical professionals freaked out when Obamacare debuted. We know the industry and can see how this policy will affect it.

The main barrier. You can't do shite without a permit.
And who gives the permits? Oh, Comcast's bed bud Joe at City Hall.

So the problem isn't with NN. If what you are saying is true, then NN is a bandaid on a gun shot wound.
Very true.
We are moving away from wired backhaul and into 1GB + OTA.
The most valued spectrum for this operation has been essentially bought out.
There are other special networks the carriers work in conjunction with the US Government.
5G is the beginning of the end of wired backhaul.
We actually have tech that now requires just one fiber line to the tower to transmit up to 10G/B's (CPRI).
The reduces cost by a shite ton!

Exactly which comes full circle to what I have said this entire GD thread...get the Gov out of the internet.

Small Cells don't need land permits.
