Neighborhood Watches: Real or Myth?

I have lived in a couple of neighborhoods with the "Neighborhood Watch" signs posted. Only one of them had an HOA, and in neither did I ever hear about the watch or actually see anyone look like they were patrolling. I figure these signs are like sticking an ADT sign in your yard while not actually having their hardware or service.
Anyone ever participate in one of these? Did you ever get to go Zimmerman on a Trayvon (rest in power)?

Myth. I loot all the time in supposed neighborhood watch areas. False sense of security = easy target.

You don't see Tiger Ryno coming, and you don't want to.

A sticker came on my house when I bought it but I’ll be honest I don’t watch shite.

I’ve lived in several neighborhoods with active neighborhood watch. It was usually an excuse for the retired baws to hang out, drink, and play poker on their front porches late at night keeping “watch”.

Around here, everyplace I lived had the signs, but nothing organized
At my camp/farm in Mississippi, they are for real, if a vehicle don’t belong makes 2 passes down the road , the phones light up, they have the license plate number And if he makes 3 passes somebody is going to stop and ask him what the hell he is doing, very nice knowing your neighbors are looking out for you, but it is at the cost of your privacy

My ADT salesman actually admitted this was the best solution to keeping thieves away.

Probably very financially risky if formal due to liability.
Imagine if a Kang were to be killed.
Lawsuits, and riots. All because the Neighborhood Watch be Killin young kangz.

The neighborhood watch is real. When we catch a “suspicious” person (you know what I mean) walking or driving through the neighborhood we detain them til the sheriffs come
The sheriffs usually dump them off in Texas

We have a very active NW in our area, over 200 members and 45 patrollers. The patrollers do a two-hour patrol every other week.
Effective? In 2010, our neighborhood of over 250 homes had 22 burglaries in seven weeks. That's when the NW was started. We now see one or two per month.
Oh, and the comment about the Neighborhood Watches being nosy old women? Nosy old women are some of the best law enforcement sources in the world. They know who belongs on the street and who doesn't and are always watching.

I did a ride along with TigerRyno once to see what it takes to be part of a neighborhood watch. It’s extremely intense and thankless work.
It puts me at ease to know that every other Thursday from 7-9PM, TigerRyno is keeping the streets safe from minorities and HOA violators.

Myth in most cases. But, that is not to say that the residents do not keep an eye out and post FB and Nextdoor observations about who or what they see out there.
