People should be up at 6:45 anyway. But if they want to sleep later they can go to bed with ear muffs. They don’t cost much.

I assume this doesn’t hold if your neighbors are playing “loud music” at midnight though, right?

Many people enjoy it. I don't know why it's that hard to understand?

Enjoying work you do is something most people appreciate. I hate doing yard work probably because I was forced to do it so much as a kid but I understand the attraction.

6:45 Seems a little early... even if you and the surrounding neighbors are awake.
This guy could be a little more considerate of his neighbors- and yes, it’s the weekend and some folks like to sleep in.
A few of my neighbors will start yard work around 8 am on the weekend, which is early enough IMO.
Have you checked with any of the other neighbors around you to see if this bothers them?

I know the OT loves a debate on appropriate grass cutting time,

On the surface he seems like an a-hole. That being said, you were awake. As I see it, you had three options:
1. grab a cup of coffee and enjoy some chill time
2. whip the frick out of your neighbor and enjoy the rest of father's day in a government run hotel.
3. Bitch about it

Oh I didn’t mean it that way. I mean that grass cutting appears to be the one sacred task that is appropriate no matter what. If someone starts using power tools at 6:30am, most people agree that person is an inconsiderate a-hole. But cause a few dozen tiny explosions per second to cut your grass? Sun up, blades down!!!!

Hell, I doubt even other yard maintenance tasks like weed eating or edging would get the same absolute deference.

I think most people consider 7:00 am appropriate for urban and suburban areas. 6:45a isn't that big of a stretch.

the sound of a lawnmower has never bothered me in the least. They're really not loud unless your house is literally 20 feet from the neighbors.

To me, 7am is already a stretch. The stereotypical “workday” starts at 8am. If you live close to other people, that strikes me as a better target. Now, if it’s getting crazy hot or there is a specific reason to go earlier, it happens. But trying to normalize starting mechanical equipment that early in a residential area makes zero sense to me.

Correct. Mowing grass is a necessity. Listening to extremely loud music at midnight is just inconsiderate.

That's why most towns/cities have noise ordinances.

IDGAF if my neighbors all start mowing their lawn right now. Just got home and will crash regardless. Hell of a Father's Day so far

No, you choose to have grass in your yard. Your neighbor chooses to listen to music. Both are required to engage in those freedoms in a manner in which doesn’t unduly disturb those around them.

You understand that assholes mowing their grass before 7am are almost always in violation of their local sound ordinance, right?

What? Unless you live in a desert, you will have grass growing in your yard.

Some places it's 6:30, some 7:00. I'm not sweating 15 minutes.

6:45AM. He's an inconsiderate a-hole. Toss a bucket of mixed Round Up over your fence one night.

No. I wait until 9AM to mow out of consideration for neighbors. They all seem to adhere to the same.
