I’m 3 weeks in without a cigarette
I got a juul pen and some 3% nicotine cartridges and I’ve not had a carving that I couldn’t ignore
Labor Day I went to the camp and partied with a dozen or so folks who all smoke and I made it intact

I stopped with Chantix and I smoked for about 15 years about a pack a day give or take. I didnt even think I used the whole 30 day prescription (you don't have to). I was going to stop at the end of the prescription, but the smell of smoke made me so sick I quit smoking about 3 weeks in. I was down to 1 or 2 cigs a day at the point anyways. That was a year and 10 months ago, and at times I still get nauseous at the smell of smoke.
I don't think I had vivid dreams or any bad side effects. I do believe at the end I did become kinda bitchy. But all medications can have some kind of side effects, and like all medication you are advised to quit taking the medication. So why not try.

I watched my Dad almost die from smoking, quit smoking the next day. I admit over the next cyouple ears after I fell off the wagon during some life stress times, but smoke free for 16 years now. Smoked for around 10 years.
All I can say is just quit, it just takes will power. Screw the patches and drugs, just stop and deal with it.

I have been a non smoker since the beginning of June 2018. Here has been my route thus far.
21mg patch first 2 weeks
14mg patch second 2 weeks
7mg patch third 2 weeks (this was miserable)
Switched to 2mg lozenges (get them at COSTCO Kirkland Brand) I take 3-4 a day, I have been weaning off by starting to take them later in the day. I will say it has been tough weaning off these things, but they are a healthier option than smoking.

I quit smoking by chewing the gum. I now chew the gum...
The gum is cheaper and the side effect is fresh breath, not cancer. Nicotine is about as harmful as caffeine, so...

I have been luck (maybe not) to be able to smoke a cigs for a night, then not touch them for months. I bought a pack for our house party about 2 weeks ago, had the last one about 8 days ago. I doubt I will buy a pack until mardi gras, maybe NYE.
Anyway, I have two friends that quit using hypnosis. One had success with it, and then the other followed suit.

then beat myself up when I give in
you have to be at that place in your life or this will not work. you have to hit a point where you know, without a doubt, no matter what situation arises, you are just done with it. and don't want it apart of your life ever again. you realize that right? it's easy for some, but for us who are or were really addicted to nicotine realizing that this is your last cigarette ever isn't an easy pill to swallow and we often lie to ourselves. when you are ready for that. quit. otherwise, you are wasting your time and you'll be right back here in a few days, weeks, or months. other than that, here is the best advice i can give you:
Cold Turkey + Chantix.
Don't frick with patches, gum, lozenges, and vaping. you'll get hooked and never kick the true problem, nicotine.
Drastically cut down on drinking for the foreseeable future.
Destroy any and all nicotine you have in your home or in your vehicle. Stop hanging out with smokers for a while.
Try to avoid daily habits or patterns where you previously would smoke. Or at least change them up.
Find a mouth/oral fixation when you get a craving: gum, mints, fireballs, sunflower seeds, whatever.
Involve others. Especially loved ones. To help hold you accountable and encourage you when suffering cravings. It really does help.
Set milestones, reward yourself, and be proud of your accomplishment. it is extremely difficult brother. but you will be much happier at the other end of this.
Despite nicotine, as a chemical, being flushed out of your system after 10 days. It's going to fricking suck for the first 3 weeks. No matter what anyone tells you: It's not over or close to over for at least 10-15 weeks. It will hit you out of the fricking blue for no reason some times. I've been nicotine free since March 29th. And I can randomly get hit hard with a craving. Makes no sense.
A couple of little things i did that personally helped me. It may be complete bullshite and there may be 0 science behind it:
- Orange Juice + cream of tarter for the first 10 days. Supposedly speeds up the flushing of nicotine out of your system.
- I would go for a walk. by myself. pockets empty. and do breathing exercises when i got a craving that i almost couldn't get over.
- exercise exercise exercise.
- go wash your face with hot/warm water when hit with a craving.
if you don't have someone to help you with the accountability above or someone who understands what you are going thru. I would be more than willing to be your nicotine accountability contact. Brother, I was in your shoes exactly 168 days ago (5 months and 15 days). We can swap emails if interested.
GOOD LUCK!

Cold turkey, then when you start getting anxious and need a cigarette just masturbate in public.

I'm not being a jerk but the only thing that made me stop was cancer.

Read the Carr book mentioned on the first page. It is not a well-written book and is highly repetitive. Ignore that. When I finished the book I was done smoking and it was way more painless than I expected.

I got a vape and started with high nicotine and weened myself down over the span of the year. Vaping is super lame and embarrassing, so I didn't want to do it in public so that helped a ton

My uncle smoked 2+ packs of cigarettes a day. He was a chain smoker. He switched to a vape (which I know people think is trashy) but he quit the vape after a few months with virtually no withdrawals.
He just kept weaning down on the nicotine mg in the juice.
Good luck!

I was a pack a day smoker for 10 years. I quit 4 years ago. Here is my insight.
I "quit" several times and failed. I failed because I knew I should quit, but I didn't actually want to. It wasn't until I actually wanted to quit that I succeeded. After I actually knew that I wanted to quit, it was quite easy. I went cold turkey.
I used to always get caught in a cycle of "after this pack, I'll quit" but I always found myself buying another pack after that. So I did something counter-intuitive, but for some reason it worked for me. I went to the store and truly bought my last pack. I still have it. I have kept it in my center console for 4 years, unopened. Since I bought it, I haven't felt that "just one more pack, then I'll quit". I have that pack, and I quit before I even started it.

I quit smoking daily about 8 years ago. I wanted to quit and the girl I was with hated it. I just used a cheap arse ecig for a few weeks. But if I’m out drinking with friends I’ll bum a few

Just think about getting cancer or having a heart attack. I think people forget that cigarette smoking is really bad for your heart and arteries and your odds of having a heart attack is very high if you keep smoking. Just stop cold turkey man, for your children.

1. Focus on 2 things
Aversion to pain and death.
Go to Cancer ward.
2. Accept the discomfort. embrace withdrawal symptoms.
3. Make other changes.
Go on juice fast your first 3 days
Or eat only watermelon three days.
Get massages.
Take hot baths.

If you want something outside the box that will actually work - Get an adderall prescription

Smoke the lit end instead. You'll quit before long.
I don't know why others don't try this.

Wellbutrin. Got me to quit in 11 days after 20 something years of smoking. Take it for 10 days while still smoking, then have your last cig.
